When the Iraqi Elections Are Held in January . . .

CaptnKirk

Will the Religious Conservative Right accept the popular and secular win of the
Islamic Fundamentalists as the rightfull Government of Iraq, or will they cry 'Foul'when that
Theocracy tells us to get out of their affairs so that can set it up as a state in the model of Iran,
and beome an extension of Middle Eastern Islamic Isolationism and not a democracy ?

Could the Administration accept that as a consequence of our actions in Iraq ?

There's a slim but realistic chance that Saddam could be re-establushed either
as a candidate on the ballot, or as a write in by the public at the polls. Then what ?

I could see nothing more democratic than a country's people electing their officials based on their own "moral values".

Considering how good the left are predicting election outcomes, you may want to scale your statements back a bit in your subtopic from "And" to "If." 😉

The Diebold machines which will be installed in Iraq by then will ensure that the new Iraqi gov't is controlled by Born-again Christian Fundamentalists.

Maybe Kerry should run for President of Iraq? I have it on good authority that they are really into windsurfing over there.

The only way the US can claim victory in iraq is by changing the standard of victory. Any honest conservative would admit that after the WMD excuse disappeared, the goal of the war was to instill a friendly democracy that would provide a model to stem the tide of muslim terrorism. This is not going to happen. Give Iraqis a voice and they will still dislike Israel and the US support of Israel. If there is ANY legit election, the government won't be pro-US for long.

I think the only unacceptable outcome for the U.S. would be Saddam winning the election. I think they would have to let an Islamic Fundamentalist government be if that is what the people wanted.

Interesting thing about Saddams Iraq is that it was not a Fundamentalist Govt. I heard that Christians were allowed Govt. positions

But in Saudi Arabia and Pakistan and Iran people could be sentenced to death for preaching from the bible or saying something bad about Mohammed or Allah.

Tariq Aziz was a Christian.(most people should know who this guy is by now)

The Truth shall be ignored 😉 🙁

Saddam has indicted that he will be running in the election 🙂

edit: the smile is because I find the idea ammusing... not because it makes me happy in any way. Hussain was a total bastard.

I thought I read that the Iraq people would be electing a 200+ council...and the council would "CHOOSE" the new president? Is that true?

That was Afghanistan. Besides the Shiites have the numbers and political power base to elect who they want to elect. The Sunnis are even worth mentioning because they have a lot of people who also hate the US. The Kurds might as well start their own nation and spilt away.

Actually, Aziz was born Michael Yuhanna. He changed his name to avoid the Christian affiliation and hostile sentiments towards his heritage. Tariq Aziz means "glorious past" in Arabic. He was also a childhood friend of Saddam.

The truth will often be spun.

Kind of like how Micheal Savage a Jew used to be called Michael Alan Weiner but later changed it to get the mass appeal amoungest the goyims. Or like Geraldo Rivera ( aka Geraldo Friedman ), or countless other Hollywood Jewish actors and preformers.

I 100% agree with you. You can't blow up a country, kill 500,000 of its citizens, humiliate captured soldiers, and then expect them to even moderately like your nation. In all honesty, expect Iraqis to absolutely revile Americans for generations to come. The two gulf wars will never be forgotten and will always be in their history books.

Americans had better hope that Iraq does not thrive, because if and when they do they will be a massive threat to your nation.

CaptnKirk, didn't you get the memo? Theocratic democracies are only tolerated in Christian nations.

Yep. It was a fequent practice of jews going back to the early Vaudeville and Hoolywood days. Anti-semitism used to pretty rampant, even in The US.

Or have you thought that perhaps to fit in with the arab community a name like "Micheal" was hard to blend with? If you watch his speeches at all he isn't hesistant of saying his religion, and it is EASILY common knowledge that he is a Chrisitan. There is nothing to hide from that. It is like my chinese friends who were born here with chines names, but to fit better with society they have "americanized" names.

As for hostile senitments, i'm sure they exist just like a previous post mentioned people chaning names here, but don't think for a second that christians are hated and reviled~ that is ridiculous

Everyone realizes that this 60 day martial law will cover up to the elections, right? I'm wondering if this will somehow have an effect, like opponents campaigning.

🙁 Sure sounds fair..

I am curious to know the number of Iraqis that Saddam wrongfully killed per year compared to us?

Saddams campaign workers are really "hitting" the Iraqi people hard with car bombs. Saddam knows no other way to deal with dissent.
