This sucks, just a few months after my breaker box catching fire costing me just over $1000 to replace. My compressor in my fridge goes tits up and I have to replace the fridge the tune of just under $1000.

Ever notice when one thing breaks everything else isnt far behind?

Update: Lowes just called me and said since I had told the salesman I needed it ASAP they worked in a delivery for today. He had went to the mgr and worked it out for me. Talk about service!

F you Home depot who told me it would be a week to get ANY model. Lowes went out of their way to make me happy. Great job!

hell yes. brought my car in to have the brakes done, they tell me it needs a front right actuator bushing or some crap. plus, it needs tires. &^%$@&#^%

Think of the bright side. The fire in your breaker box didn't spread throughout the house and kill you. You now have a new fridge, hopefully you bought an energy star, which uses less energy and will save you on electricity costs. And you will soon have a new microwave as thats next to go.

Yea, you can get a brand new stainless clad one for a grand or a regular white for for about $500.

Unless it's a Subzero or something don't bother replacing the compressor.

Anything other than a crappy top/bottom model was at least $800 and ranged all the way up to $6000! Jesus, who pays $6000 for a freezer?

yeah...i went to Home depot the other day to buy a fridge. They only have their low end fridges in stock. I was shocked when i saw a 5000 dollar fridge though.

the one we have is prob at least a 25CFT Side by side GE, its on its way out, prob gonn areplace it with a Bottom freezer one of similar size, prob cost AT LEAST 2K

And you know what? I'll bet you the cost of the frig it'll keep food cold just as well as the $6000 models.

I still have a leak in either my septic system sprinkler pipes or my regular sprinkler system pipes which I cannot find, then yesterday I find out my pool pump is not drawing water from the pool. I think I may have broken on of the intake pipes when I had a 2-ton crate of rock dropped off a couple of weeks ago.

actually the in door water and ice dispencer is definily worth 300$
my tap water never gets that cold and i never have to remember to fill up ice trays


also btm freezer fridges are more efficient at keeping food cold, and beleive it or not, the more expensive models that have "Food Zones" actually work better at keeping certian foods fresher longer

And I guess you have either never had one or the other to tell teh difference but it is pretty big. The cheapy fridge that came with our house is like the one you linked. It freezes the milk/water/etc... in the back and doe snot cool as much near the front door. Cheap fridges do that. A good one works much better and also uses less power. So that $300-500 you saved will not last as you use that money up and more when you frigde adds more to your power bill.

It depends on your criteria I guess.

It can get absurd though, my uncle put all Viking appliances in his place (I haven't seen him cook once in the 25 years I've been alive). It is interesting to see a $8000 built in fridge chilling down nothing more than a case of diet coke and some bottled water for the rest of its serviceable life.

Its handy I agree, but it doesnt determine whether a fridge is decent or not.
How well it keeps food cold is the true measure of a fridge. If my fridge only worked 12 hours a day then didnt turn on for the other half of the day, I would consider that a poor fridge.

Long as it keeps my food cold I'm happy.

Anything else is a selling point and an option. And water in the door is damned handy.

But not worth 300 IMO.

The Sears Scratch & Dent store is 5 miles from my house. I got a 26 cubic foot fridge (white) with filtered water & ice in the door. It also has upgraded glass shelves for $750. I saw my fridge at a Sears store for $1300.

There's one small dent in the door and I don't even notice it.

on a new fridge it should be fine. and even the cheaper ones are energy efficiant.

i had both cheap and expensive fridges. really not much diffrence between size, extras and how they look.

we purchased a new fridge about 8 months ago. a 25ft side by side with water/ice (stainless at that). its a nice fridge.

though i hate the side by side. next fridge i buy won't be one.

I was also limited by the fact that my doorways are 30 inches wide which limited what I could physically get into my home. That made me go up another $200 or so. This one does have an ice maker though. Does anyone have experience installing them (hosing etc) that can give me some pointers?
