Note that by purchasing COD-MW2 you are supporting the consolization of PC gaming and thus the destruction of PC gaming. It might be better to get Battlefield Bad Company 2 or an older FPS that people still play (Team Fortress or even the older Unreal Tournament 2004 if you can find it cheap.

BC2 is on consoles as well...

It's been a while since I read about its issues, but the consolization took the form of being unable to own or manage private servers and of players not really having a server browser. My understanding is that when you go to play online, you are sent to a random server. Also, I don't think the game supports custom content, which used to be a hallmark of PC FPS gaming.

wait a minute...you don't even own and have never played the game, but you're here bashing it? wow...

at least I play the games before I bash them...

search ebay for "Call of Duty Modern Warfare 2 Steam" (make sure NOT Russian version, English ONLY)
i see a listing for copies selling for $34.85 for a key to activate in steam.

be sure to ask for a picture of cdkey from manual too if ownership ever needs to be proved to valve/activision.

I've read about how the online multiplayer works; that's all I really needed to know. Also, if people cannot make and freely distribute and download custom content, that's another reason to protest the game.

So many PC gamers out there have no idea how good people can actually get on the PC so they automatically cry hacks on any decent player they find. I've probably only seen about 10 actual cheaters in about 12 years of PC gaming. That's not very many over a long period of time.

It helps me decide who's actually cheating because I'm one of the people getting accused of hacking all the time by people that have no idea how to use sound to their advantage. These are the same poeple that think quick mouse movements are an aimbot also.

There's lots of cheaters in COD4, and I hear MW2 is even worse. Almost every weekend I play the administrators end up kicking someone. Most of them are very obvious cheaters.

At least in CoD4 cheaters get kicked from the game by the admins. There are no dedicated servers for MW2, so no admins, so cheaters aren't getting kicked off servers.

Sorry for the n00b question, but are the dedicated servers for MW1 still running?

I sincerely doubt the servers are run by Infinity Ward/Activision. Most of those servers are run by clans and communities of gamers who like the game. Many, many clans were fully planning on replacing their COD4 servers or running new ones alongside them.

Those plans were all shattered when MW2 didn't HAVE dedicated servers.
