Knowing your inventory and trying to remember the make and model of hundreds of different cars are 2 totally different things.

That IS the inventory. And it's not like I'm asking, "What's the water pump model number for a 1984 Chrysler LeBaron with the 2.2 liter Mitsubishi engine?" If your job, day in and day out, is looking up parts for people on a computer, eventually you *should* recognize that an Accord is a Honda, a Jetta is a VW, a Sentra is a Nissan, and a GTO is a Pontiac. But I agree, they're low brow mouth breathers and that's my complaint!

Thats a bunch of crap. A lot of these guys have forgotten more about cars that you will ever know. Talk crap all you want about mechanics, parts guys, whoever but without em youd be on foot.

I'd really like to see how competent you are in your job.

WTF crawled up your ass? Are you one of these incompetent mouth breathing parts managers at Pep Boys? You really have no basis for your assumptions, I however do. (Second guy I called, "2004 GTO, did they start making those again? Who makes that?" he asked of his coworker)

Theres the problem right there. Only a complete idiot would shop at pep boys. I shop at an independant parts store. If you have so much trouble on the phone why dont you drag your fat ass down to the store and tell these guys what ya think of em.

Actually, smart guy, that second guy that I called WAS at an independent parts store, where I thought surely he would have a head on his shoulders when it came to cars. And your ass is fatter than mine. And you are ugly, and you smell bad.

wow...resulting to personal insults about a guy you most likely know nothing about.

What you are complaining about is on par with you getting pissed at someone for not knowing a 6800GT is a video card made by nVidia.

If the guy worked at a computer shop, I'd expect that he'd know that too.

I mean, even if you're not a car nut, just working in a car store eventually you'd know SOMETHING about cars, right? I worked in a furniture store and if you called about a certain model of couch, I knew what you were talking about. But i'm not a couch nut.

GTO's are not that popular and not every cares/knows about them.

Kid in an autoparts store is usually about as mechanically inclined as joe nobody off the street.

I'd rather they didn't know it was a Pontiac on the phone, than to be looking at it thinking it's a cavalier, lol.

Go GTO, btw. 🙂 Gotta like the LS1.

You're argument would make sense if he was mad at a Macy's clerk for not knowing the answer. But if a person who didn't know who made a 6800GT and was working at Newegg... then we have problems.

I hate when I call up to see if they have brake discs for a type 3 and they don't know wtf I'm talking about. My car is a type 1 but the discs from the type 3 are a clear upgrade to my drums, and it's easier to just ask if they have type 3 parts than to tell them what kind of car I have and then tell them that I need parts from a different car.

And wth doesnt know that a cb is a sohc?

It's a sofa.

its nothing worth getting upset over.

Should have pony upped the money and bought a honda. Everybody knows what a honda is. A GTO... only people who bought a GTO and are full of themselves knows what a GTO is. GTO a pontiac? Who knew.. actually, didn't pontiac go out of business or something?

pfft, who wants to own one of the worst cars of all time?

It's probably just to make sure they heard you right. Sometimes it's hard to tell the difference between GTO and Puegot over the phone 😉

Yeah, I hate how people like nutxo do that. First I don't fix my own cars, then I'm incompetent at my job, then I'm a fat ass. I hate people who do exactly what you said.

Not Pontiac.

Holden was purchased by GM in '31.
Pontiac has been owned by GM since '26

Pontiac made the GTO between '64 - '74

The GTO came back in '04 based on the Holden Monaro's V platform.

Near as I can tell, idea based off of != made. Therefore Pontiac made the GTO.

You would have been closer in stating that neither Pontiac nor Holden made the GTO, rather it was GM that did, since Pontiac and Holden are infact, child companies of GM. But that claim would still be a stretch.

It only took a little research to find out your claim that it was made by Holden to be bullshit. Nice try, though. Idiot.

Can you explain something to me? Can you explain how an auto parts store would be able to look up "2004 Holden GTO" in their US parts list when:

A: There are no Holden vehicles sold in the USA?
B: There is no such thing as a Holden GTO, only a Holden Monaro which ALSO wouldn't be in their parts database?

Good on you for trying twice to bait me into an argument that's off topic, and which you cannot win.

There's a NAPA store by my house I use. THe guys there are older and have been in the car business for years. I can just hint at something and they know exactly what I need. I'd say you're calling the wrong place. FInd somewhere with knowledgeable people and not just kids and you'll get better service and better information.
