It should be enough for me to say "2004 GTO" and not have to specify that it's a Pontiac. Who are these people? I mean, even if you're not a car nut, just working in a car store eventually you'd know SOMETHING about cars, right? I worked in a furniture store and if you called about a certain model of couch, I knew what you were talking about. But i'm not a couch nut.

Knowing your inventory and trying to remember the make and model of hundreds of different cars are 2 totally different things.

2004 GTO Here (well, sold now), and same problem. Oh and did you also know it's a FWD V6? I didn't. Local guys told me so though.

i didnt mind having to tell them i have a dodge ram instead of a ram, but i hate it when they ask me questions i dont know... like whether my rear drum is a 10" or a 12"? its not based on engine size or anything, so its a crapshoot. i hate not having more info than those guys :p

I was buying a serpentine belt for my car and watched as the desk clerk found it in inventory - they don't need to know jack about cars, you tell them the make, model, year, and part and they put it in their computer, then go find the part it tells them to.

Some of the older hands know cars, but the desk monkeys generally don't. And I know plenty of people who wouldn't be able to connect GTO and Pontiac.

That IS the inventory. And it's not like I'm asking, "What's the water pump model number for a 1984 Chrysler LeBaron with the 2.2 liter Mitsubishi engine?" If your job, day in and day out, is looking up parts for people on a computer, eventually you *should* recognize that an Accord is a Honda, a Jetta is a VW, a Sentra is a Nissan, and a GTO is a Pontiac. But I agree, they're low brow mouth breathers and that's my complaint!

I was a parts manager at Pep Boys for awhile when I was a freshman in college. Myself and all of the parts guys had to be ASE certified. They revamped upper management positions in the company, changed a whole bunch of shit, and that requirement went out the door. They started to hire individuals that were borderline retarded. That's the way all the big box autopart stores are now.

Thats a bunch of crap. A lot of these guys have forgotten more about cars that you will ever know. Talk crap all you want about mechanics, parts guys, whoever but without em youd be on foot.

I'd really like to see how competent you are in your job.

WTF crawled up your ass? Are you one of these incompetent mouth breathing parts managers at Pep Boys? You really have no basis for your assumptions, I however do. (Second guy I called, "2004 GTO, did they start making those again? Who makes that?" he asked of his coworker)

I have a novel idea:

Stop complaing about dumb shit!

What you are complaining about is on par with you getting pissed at someone for not knowing a 6800GT is a video card made by nVidia.

Theres the problem right there. Only a complete idiot would shop at pep boys. I shop at an independant parts store. If you have so much trouble on the phone why dont you drag your fat ass down to the store and tell these guys what ya think of em.

Actually, smart guy, that second guy that I called WAS at an independent parts store, where I thought surely he would have a head on his shoulders when it came to cars. And your ass is fatter than mine. And you are ugly, and you smell bad.

So you had to say an extra 3 syllable word to a clerk and you started a thread about it? I am going to go out on a limb and say your 9-5 job doesn't demand much from you. (if you have one)

Well logically, the only reason that I can see for you defending these people is that you're as incompetent at your job as they are, and it makes you feel bad when someone points it out. Don't worry, you'll get the hang of it eventually.

So Pontiac makes the GTO?

I honestly didn't know this, nor did I ever care to know it. I would have never bought a GTO in my life, and if for some damn reason someone wanted to give me one, I would sell it instantly.
