I have gotten to the first town... so far this game is quite boring and uninspiring, I don't really have much interest in the story.

Alchemy seems way waaaay to complicated, shit I can't even do some quests till I buy some book that costs around 200 gold, and I only have like 50.... am I doing it wrong?

I don't think I bought any books until Act II.

you really need to talk to everyone. did you go out of the fenced in area of the hotel?

Yeah, but I can't really go anywhere... seems pretty confined right up to the entrance to the city that I cant get in...

I asked myself the same question while playing the game for about 10+ hours, it just has too much talking, boring combat, etc. I gave up on it personally. I liked Mass Effect which is a similar type of game but witcher, meh.

Personally, I didn't really get into it until late into act II. It ended up being one of my favorite games though.

It gets good soon IMO. Which reminds me, I'd better get back into the Witcher. Great game, and I never finished it.

Chapter 2. Then the plot gets really interesting...All I can say without spoiling anything is don't be too quick to trust anyone in Witcher.

I completed Dragon Age before, and I'm only at Chapter 3...But I can already say Witcher's plot make DA's look like a child.

You are kidding, right? It's one of the best games I ever played... Uninspired?! It's one of the most inspired games ever. If you don't like The Witcher, you need to seriously think about why you even bother to play RPGs at all. I am hard pressed to find anyone I ever spoke to who didn't think the game was absolutely fantastic.

I love it when someone bashes an RPG and points out excessive "talking".

Go play MW2 then. The Witcher is great and the payoff is worth a somewhat slow start.

Do you mean first town as in the village after the opening or the first city with walls? I would say it gets better after you get the first city. I was disappointed in the very begining at the keep and got a little restless during the first village. Until I learned how to bag chicks.

Not being able to jump over the short fences really messed with my sense of immersion, but I got over it after a while.

BTW - Wasn't alchemy pretty easy? If I remember correctly - All you have to do is press the vial icon and it shows you exactly what you can and can't brew.

Did anybody every bag the waitress at the bar with the abusive husband? Was she even a shag possibility?

It gets interesting once you start to get into the story in the town around the city. It is pretty boring up until you get into that storyline, however. After that, it is pretty good up until the end. Go talk to the Witch and the Town Leader, and start to do their missions. Near the end of those, you will start seeing things tie together, and it becomes much more fun.

Yes. You do it by saving her from the wolfpack, escorting her home (which is damn hard BTW), and meeting her at the Windmill at midnight (if I have the right person, I haven't played the game in quite a while.) It was one of the best cut scenes of the bunch, so you may find it worthwhile to try it out again.

Make sure you go the night you save her, as the offer is only good for one day (I missed out the first time through, and had to reload an old save to see how it ended.)

Keep playing, and don't worry about alchemy, I used it pretty sparingly. I couldn't figure out what a lot of the descriptions meant either. It was definitely poorly integrated/explained. Focus on combat and spell powers. You will find the groove but it takes longer than many other games. After reading all the hype I was underwhelmed also but came to really enjoy it over time. Still not in my top 10 but I'm very glad I played it through.

So that's the one? I thought that was a different one.

I did do that whole escort thing when I first played the game; I think it took me a whole night of playing to finish it without her dying before she got home.

For some reason I remember not being able to get into her house once we arrived.

I guess I'll have to replay at least the beginning to see all that again.

I've only played for a few hours, but it seems pretty lame to me so far. Not that I'm giving up on it just yet. It does seem to start off pretty slow, which can turn away people that are really into RPG's or people that don't read lots of reviews.

IMO the Witcher is one of the most original RPGs i've played, in terms of plot and mechanics, mainly the latter. Combat does seem boring at first but there's more to it as you learn more "magic"

Anyone wondering what's so great, get towards the end of the Outskirts (chapter 1) and into Vizima (ch2), starts to pick up there, for me anyway!

Yeah, I am in the first village, with the fences that you can't get over...

You know with the beast and all... cant do a few of the quests there cause I dont have the journal entry on the monsters.

It just seems quite underwhelming especially with all the hype I kept haering.

But if it gets really good and is super awesome I will stick with it. Give it another few hours.

The boss battle with the beast is a BITCH.

I remember it as being one of the toughest battles in the game.

Well super awesome is a very subjective term :)

I'm enjoying it, it's pretty hardcore. You have to want to explore and even experiment a bit. I will admit it does drag here and there and can be kinda clunky, but i'm managing to ignore that so far.

I am playing it on Hard mode too, btw, where alchemy is "necessary to survive". Maybe it's too easy for you?

lol, yeah defeating the beast took me at least a dozen attempts, maybe two dozen. I'm towards the end of chapter 2 right now.

Same, when I did it the first time. Interestingly, the next time I was killing the beast, I just made it eat a fully charged aard, which knocked it down and I killed it in one blow.

Yeah. I found I could do it in time to get her home if I went north instead of south to get her home (since you are on the other side of a lake IIRC, you can go two ways back to the village).

I think I might try this game again. I started to play one of the additional episodes that came with the EE version, but never finished it. I did think the game was fun however. Hopefully they do a better job with the interface in the upcoming sequel. (The Aurora engine didn't seem to cut it for what they were trying to do, with random invisible walls throughout the game.)

It picks up when you get to the city. The game is a bit overrated though imo. Dragon Age is superior.
