As others have said, I started really enjoying it in Act 2, once you enter the first city. But I also found it fun revisiting the game in the earlier areas after that.. so I dunno... I guess it just grows on you.

But if you're already a fair way through and not enjoying it, might as well stop. No point if it isn't fun for you. Everyone's different.

I have gotten to the first town... so far this game is quite boring and uninspiring, I don't really have much interest in the story.

Alchemy seems way waaaay to complicated, shit I can't even do some quests till I buy some book that costs around 200 gold, and I only have like 50.... am I doing it wrong?

It gets good about the time the end credits finish rolling :p

One beef I have with it is that it seems to run like s*** no matter what system I'm playing it on. My computer can max BF:BC2 at 60fps, there's no reason I should be getting less than 30 with visibility set to LOW in Witcher.

Ahh, so maybe it's not just me. My system is not that strong, but still, I would not expect some of the weird slowing and stalling that has been occurring. Guess I just have to play through it.

One thing funny, performance wise about that game... was that back in the day (before the EE patch), I remember it crashed over time, and eventually had it's performance diminish over time. I was able to fix the issues on my own system, back then, by making the game LARGEADDRESSAWARE, allowing it to use over 2GB of virtual address space on 64-bit operating systems. I'm not sure if that would still work on the latest version, or if it's even necessary anymore though. I'm pretty sure the major issues have been patched by now...

Could just be driver related.

I was playing the Witcher and I got to the second chapter (the big walled-in City), helped the Templar guy kill the creature in the sewers and did some other stuff, harassed some guy who had some other Witcher's gear and I quit playing for some reason and just never bothered to pick it back up.

It didn't grow on me like everybody said it would.

Looking more into it, it seems like CDProjekt was a little overzealous with the engine they had to work with. No system in the world can run the Witcher without blips and slowdowns, apparently.

The Witcher is one of those games that I get addicted to, play for hours each day and think about it in between, and then get bored of and put away for several weeks / months.

The introduction was decently fun. They spoon feed you just enough information to make the world of the Witchers mysterious and compelling. I was completely hooked for a while waiting to see what would happen next.

Then I got into Act 1. At first I ran around trying to get everything done, but I quickly got bored of the "go here, do this for me" attitude. I "quit" about half way through Act 1, and picked the game back up 3-4 months later. I muddled through the rest.

Once I got into Act 2, things got a lot more interesting again. Currently I'm something like 1/3 - 1/2 of the way through Act 2, and put the game down simply to play newer titles I've bought in the mean time. I need to pick it back up.

Overall, I wish they had done Act 1 a lot differently. I have a feeling a lot of people put the game down simply because they don't feel like running through that stupid village any more.

Yes, the game goes through spurts where it is really fun and emersive then spurts of bloody annoying repetition especially if you start randomly doing quests - you will find yourself going back and forth to the swamps 20x and getting real sick of plowing through swarms of drowners.

Alchemy was over implemented if that makes sense. You have an overwhelming amount of recipes and ingredients but the game doesnt give you enough resources to make a whole lot. Theres like 4 or 5 common poitions you want and thats mostly it.

further more Alchemy is only important on the hard difficulty which I recommend , otherwise the game is too easy. However - a couple of the boss fights are so frustratingly hard.. IN Fact there are points in the game that if you dont have enough potions save you will royally SCREW yourself to the point of having to revert a whole chapter - I shit you not.

Depsite the flaws, I found it to be one of the best and most unique rpgs I have ever played. In the end it was all worth it.

Get the enhanced edition btw if you can.

I have the enhanced edition, and I am playing it on hard...

I still cannot get into the game.... I tried some more, didn't get very far... I have no idea where to go, or what to do... and I don't really want to try and figure it out

Still in the outskirts, or did you make it into the city yet?

Look at your journal, it will tell you what quests you have and what to do for each quests. You can also choose to track one of your quests, which causes a red dot to show up on your map telling you where to go.

I stopped playing the Witcher halfway through act 2, came back half a year later, and using the journals I got back up to speed pretty quickly.

If you are really that uninterested, then maybe the game just isn't for you. Different strokes for different folks...

Yup, that would be me. I was probably a couple hours into Act 1 and all I could think was "wow.. this is tedious".

I uninstalled the game today and won't be going back. What a bore, it feels like playing an MMO.

But, what other game can you tap a waitress, bang a witch, and bend a dryad over a log in the woods and get a little card as a momento?

You quit too soon, far too soon.

This is slightly off topic, but has anyone read "The Last Wish" which is the book that this is based off of. If so how does it compare to the game?

I liked it. It is somewhat episodic, but the different stories do end up being tied together at the end of the book. It is dark. grim fantasy, as you might imagine. You do see where they got a lot of the game character of Geralt from. I would recommend picking it up if you like the game or game world. The second book in the series is also out.

Also, if you have the EE edition, it's worth it, imo, to play a little bit of the game in the Polish language version, just for the experiance. Voice acting there is real good, and Geralt sounds much better.

I somehow got through that Act and got bored at Act 2. I'm at the part in the prison right now and wondering if I should even continue.

The combat is what really bugs me in this game. It's really quite tedious.

I'm actually reading the book right now despite having never played the game. The book is interesting enough (the episodic way it is structured is off-putting) that I'll be watching for a Steam-deal on The Witcher.

I totally forgot that there are some kind of side quests/ mini-expansions included with the EE that I need to try. Thanks dudes.

I enjoyed the Witcher... However, while I enjoyed the idea of alchemy, I had a bajillion pots and never really needed them on Normal, and being the packrat collector asshole I am, I wasted 50% of the game running around picking herbs I didn't need. Silly me.

The storyline is kickass, though, especially at the end once you find out some serious major stuff about the big bad guy. I do love the universe they're in. With a little streamlining a la Mass Effect 2, I guarantee Witcher 2 is going to be one of the best RPGs made.

I just got the enhanced edition on sale from GS today ($8 after a $10 credit + tax and shipping). Played through the tutorial and part of Act 1. I'm liking it so far, playing with Polish audio and English subtitles. Hoping the interest keeps up, it sounds like I'm at a junction where I'll find out how engrossing it really is.

I agree with comments about combat and alchemy so far; I haven't really used potions, and the combat seems too straight forward, though I'm sure that's partly due to my low level.

I gave it an honest shot. I logged 10 hours and I just couldn't get into it enough to care about the plot. I'm sure it gets better if you guys say so, and I may revisit it one day. But there's too many other games on my playlist to devote any more time to this game that I have so far found to be incredibly mediocre. If this is commonly accepted as a flaw to the game, the developers maybe should have reworked it a bit to make it more interesting, sooner.

Just my 2 cents.

I actually liked the first area of the game. While I would admit it starts off somewhat slow, I would say no slower than most other RPGs. The first area has a nice pace and a nice intro to monster hunting.

I tried 3 times to get into this game, but never made it past 4 hours. The game engine and combat system killed it for me more than the storyline.
