When did you learn the truth about Santa Claus?

I thought about being an ass one time and renting a billboard and putting on there "Santa isn't real." in big letters, just to see what kind of controversy it could cause. But then I decided I wanted a better way to use my 15 minutes.

4 or 5, my great granpa said he did't want to lie to me, so he explained how St. Nicholas was alive a long time ago and did good deeds, etc; and my parents were the ones that bought the presents and put them under the tree. In retrospect, I'm glad he was honest with me. It was fun to watch other kids in my class (went to a Catholic school - around Dec 06 a guy dressed up in bishop's garb pretending to be jolly old St Nick would distribute presents at a school assembly, which the parents wrapped and brought in earlier that week) believe that was really St. Nick

I remember being 8-9 when my parents told me. I wasn't so upset that he wasn't real, but more upset that my parents were the ones who had been spending all this money on useless gifts that I really didn't deserve or need when I had previous taken them for granted as gifts from a higher being.

Yeah, I never believed in santa either. I was born too cynical . And my parents never encouraged it either, so I never even wasted any stamps writing too the North Pole.

I think I cried for a while. I kinda felt like less of a kid after that because shortly after she told me about the Easter bunny and leprechauns, too. (I have a terrible sister)

Anyway, I was kinda relieved that I'm the youngest so I didn't have to worry about accidentally ruining it for my younger siblings. My sister, on the other hand, did it deliberately. I at least understood why my mother wrote so much like Santa after that, though. I was kind of suspicious when I begged Santa for a life-sized Barbie but didn't receive it that year because he was too "busy".

i dont know how old I was, probably between 7-10, but i remember i started to realize that the handwriting from "Santa" was the same handwriting as "Mom" on all my gifts.

Wow that's pretty bad, but this is why I halfly knew that Santa Claus is not real. I attended Sunday School and thought what does a fat bearded dude has anything to do with the birth of Jesus Christ.

I asked Santa for a autographed picture of him in front of our xmas tree one year. I was suspicious that he didnt exist and so I decided to test my thoery. To my moms credit she found a picture of Santa in front of a tree that looked quite similar to our house and autographed it.
