When did you join Gmail? How many messages are in your inbox?

I was reading the recent article about the Google engineer compromising Gmail inboxes and Gtalk chats, and I started wondering about how much data we give to Google.

I joined on 06/14/2004. I did not start using it fulltime until 08/2008. Before 08/2008 I had only received 800 e-mails using my Gmail account, and now I have 26,202 in my inbox (total, not unread).

I have used my e-mail for Political Consulting (including a large well-known race), to discuss legal strategy about an appeal in very well-known case, lawsuits relating to a large and well-known environmental disaster and the usual plethora of business and work related e-mails that would be a boon to any competitor or insider that sought to undermine the public company I now work for.

How many e-mails do you have? Have you ever shared or discussed sensitive issues or data using Gmail? Do you worry about the safety of your e-mail or chats?

I can honestly say that I had barely considered it before today. I always considered myself to be a very small fish in a very large pond. However, I've seen in the past year or so that some very important people use Gmail and discuss a wide-range of sensitive issues and subjects. It makes me very suspicous that people with access wouldn't attempt to take advantage of their position and access data and e-mail that is sensitive and important.

I would say my biggest reason for integrating with and depending upon Gmail was my early acceptance of the Android OS. Prior to that, I was a big fan of Google's sync for Blackberry. I now consider Gmail and Google Contacts to be integral to my life.

My join date was 6/3/2004

I have 7364 emails to date in this account.

At the time I joined it was still next to impossible to get an account. I actually was watching that old shoe The Screen Savers on Tech TV and Kevin Rose asked some question and said the first person to email him the correct answer would be given a gmail invite. I just so happened to be on my computer at the time, knew the answer and fired it off to him. Pretty sure that's the only time I've ever "won" something from a tv show.

I'm regards to the privacy concerns, of course there is always that risk but I just hope tgatbwith a company as large as Google, they'll have the best safeguards in place.

There's bound to be the bad apples here and there but that's a risk regardless of where you keep your data in the cloud.

Dropbox is super popular now days and that's a cloud service that gets file system access to possibly multiple computers and mobile devices all at once.

I should note I typed this all up from my Moto Droid :p

Google owns me :(

9/11/04, 8836 messages. I guess it's nothing special by today's standards, but I remember at the time Gmail was pretty revolutionary. Back then Hotmail and others will still offering what, 5-10MB of storage? Then Google came out with Gmail that started at 1GB I believe. Really shook things up. Conversation view is really nice as well, I don't know if Hotmail and other free providers offer a similar interface now, never even bothered looking for anything else.

I don't really send anything too sensitive through my email, though. To be honest, if privacy is a serious concern, you might be better off paying a bit for your own domain and server to host email.

i have multiple accounts.. i don't know. lots.

If whatever you're talking about is that important, don't do it via email. I suppose encryption would be ok, but the ineptitude of whomever you are conversing with will ruin it anyhow.

Sometime in 2004. 36 messages in my Inbox and much of them could be deleted. I use my .edu for 95% of my email and the other 5% split between Gmail, Yahoo, and a POP3. I should consolidate to two or so though.

Joined sometime in the summer of 2004. Currently 1950+ in my "all mail" box, nearly 500 in "sent mail," and about 150 in "trash."

I go through at least once per year and clean everything out, deleting stuff I don't need or want.

I joined in 2004 or 5. Currently 66 messages in the inbox. I see no point in accumulating messages.

Joined in 2009, ~11800 emails.

EDIT: That includes e-mails I imported from my school accounts, which were created in 2007

2 accounts from 04 and 1 acct from last year I think. One of them is a spam account so I can't even tell you how many emails I've deleted unread in the past. Hasn't been getting any spam at all lately it seems though.

My join date was 4/21/2004 and I have 23,057 messages using 1708 MBs. I got one of the first invites from a blogger account I half used at one point. I gave two invites away to friends and traded one invite for an unopened copy of win xp pro.
