When did the Postal Service turn into a fad?

Don't get me wrong, I've had their CD for a while and there are times that I really enjoy listening to it. But wtf did listening to them become so popular? I swear I can't walk 20 feet on campus without seeing someone in a PS shirt or something, not to mention everyone and their mother is associated with 5 Postal Service fan clubs on Facebook (which is something of a fad in itself, but at least its useful). It used to be such an underground sort of thing (and I never really enjoy Death Cab).

Oh, and that acoustic version for the M&M commercial is godawful. *puke*

As a final thought, it just occured to me that the Postal Service/Death Cab came out of the Puget Sound, so I suppose it'd be understandable if anyone not from Washington was like "WTF?"

If it makes you feel any better, I have no idea what you're talking about.

I'm sorry. I think I started this fad last year after downloading several Postal Service songs and sharing them with others. And yes, I'm not from Puget Sound.

The postal service, it is a band with a heavy techno sounding theme in their music, quite a unique sound actually ;)

I love them. Sound excellent. That Iron and Whine song on that m&m commercial blows though, I deleted it immediately, otherwise they sound awesome.

I personally havent heard anyone else around here in WA getting into them...but I may just be anti-social :D

i recently got their CD from a friend and find it very relaxing to listen to. The backround reminds me a lot of Aphex Twin style of music...and the voice is tolderable. Overall i think they are a good band, and hope they have a 2nd CD

I used to be like you and get pissed when bands I liked got popular, but I also wasn't a total fvcking poseur like you, because I knew what songs were their's and what bands were covers. You're a poseur simply for acting like you like a band a lot then not even knowing that the song in the M&Ms commercial is a cover by a different band.

The acoustic version is a cover by Iron & Wine. I actually like it a lot.

He said the postal service is giving M@M's to fat ladies with big butts in Puget Sound.

When I say "underground" I'm referring to something that has spread primarily through word-of-mouth rather than getting air time on radio/tv/whatever. And by that definition it very much was. Hell, even Death Cab couldn't be considered "well-known" when Give Up was released. I even knew several Death Cab fans that didn't even know ThePS existed.

And yes, EGGO, seems like it's everywhere now.
