He didn't start it. Unless I'm mistaken, moonwalking was featured in the 1980 movie Xanadu, by one of the breakdancers in the final dance scene.

Well... go ahead, ridicule the man... but I still respect him for his singing and dancing abilities. One of the greatest popper's I've ever seen... of course I probably haven't seen half the underground people that could put MJ to shame...
