When did fixing two teeth cost more than a boob job?

The OP is a tool "why isn't this industry regulated?" Regulation only jacks the price up more as dentists have to cover every inch of their asshole with legal protection, fees to the government, and it only leads to a mess where you get fucked more, and then come on AT and bitch more.

the Plastic surgery industry is the only medical industry where prices are not rising. And why is this? Because it's allowed to remain competitive unlike the retarded system we have in place now and the communist health plan Obama seeks to Rahm through--hopefully he is thwarted in that effort.

payment plan?

There are no payment plans in Washington state (for dental).
Believe me, I have tried.

what? sure, there is. you mean to tell me all dentists in Washington expect payment up front?

another question, the teeth that are needing crowns, do they both have big fillings in them right now?

The back story is, they rotted at age 15 (due to some medications). I got them fixed, but over the years, they have broken down.

I was told today, that teeth with root canals often become bitter and break after time.
Who knows.

Capitol one dental plans are the only 'plans" offered now.
http://www.dentalcompare.com/d...Dental-Procedures.html

I have no credit.
So.

One offered a payment plan...
Unfortunately 333.33 a month on a 4k balance.
I have to pay rent =(

what medication caused your teeth to rot? news to me.

yes, it's true... teeth with root canals do become brittle and are subject to breakage because of that.

i would say, the current condition of those teeth, and the need for a root canal on one, is not going to be cheap no matter what. two crowns, two pins (anchors), a molar root canal, and a two surface posterior composite filling is going to cost you at least $3000 anywhere.

I had multiple severe sinus infections when I was young, I don't remember the medications...
What I was told: Severe Xerostomia (sp?)(dry mouth) lead to cavities on the back teeth... I had around six cavities, most of them were minor except these two.

Don't remember much.

There is no competition if everyone agrees to a set price... Price fixing happens. It might not be seen, but it happens.

Dentists don't offer their services on eBay.

Look at it this way...
If you and you buddies have a rare necessity for sale... Then you all offer it at the same inflated price. Well my friend! As long as you are all in cahoots you can all charge the same inflated amount (because people have to buy your necessity).

Life isn't fair and things are not guaranteed to work out well.

You'll get through this just like other people in tough situations do.

edit, meant NOT guaranteed lol

I have no idea if it works this way, but can you go to a regular medical doctor and get referred to a dentist and have it at least partially covered by insurance that way?

The key phrase is "over time". I had two or three root canals done while I was a student and did not have the money for the crown. I waited seven years on those uncrowned teeth with root canals. Just start chewing with different teeth or the other side of your mouth. When you have the money or a job with insurance, go back and get those teeth crowned.

The summer just ended. I assume you were working over the summer. You should have something to pay the immediately necessary portion of this bill with. If not, then talk to financial aid about grants or a loan. Also, it may help to call other dentists and ask for a quote. You already have a list of what needs to be worked on, provide this list to the other dentists and ask their price.

Sign up for new credit card? 0% for a year?
Loan from parents?

You definitely should get the root canal. I'm not sure how long you can wait until you put a crown on it. If it's infected, you don't want it to get worse and causing more problems. They might be able to do a cheaper 'temporary' solution instead of a crown?

At this point CC and parents are out of the question.
A better job and dental school seem to the be the only feasible options. (For me at this time.)

plastic surgury is also non-essential and has a much shallower demand curve

yeah
cash only = lower administrative bullshit

Are there any dental schools nearby? Students need patients to practice on, a lot of dental schools have programs where they will have students treat you for free. The drawback is you're not having an experienced professional work on you. But generally their work is heavily supervised so there's not too much to worry about.

I just did a quick google search for dental insurance in Washington, and there seems to be a plethora of plans

Although it is too late now, of course.

This may be a bit of help: a list of low-cost dental clinics in Washington
http://washington-state-low-cost-dental-care.washington.aidpage.com/

Community dental plans, (at lest the one I went to) only cater to children. Over 18, your on your own...

I'm trying to volunteer with a dental school.
Hope that works out.

Thanks for the list of dental plans, I will take a look... Unfortunate (now) these teeth are a pre-existing condition.

Does your university have a dental school? If so, have you thought about approaching them to see if they would work on your teeth?

EDIT: NM, looks like someone brought this same point up.

We don't have "free" dental care in Canada. Though there may be some assistance for emergency cases? Not sure.

Try and get the least amount of work done to alleviate the pain at the cheapest rate. No extras. Get a loan/line of credit? Donations?
