It says there are approximate 6.3 million kids. The Department of Education's budget is $56.8 billion. That means it costs approximately $9,000 dollars a year per kid.

:Q

That's pretty close to the national average. That's also a lot more than Japan and South Korea spend per student. We're not getting much of a return on that investment.

With how much the car registration is going up, lots of people have been thinking about it but there's no place greater in the USA than Los Angeles.

Obviously you haven't been to San Diego.

:)thumbsup:)

Only the weather is slightly better and things are cheaper but LA is better in every way. Everything is within close driving distance.

Driving in LA?

...WTF?

In Texas, that would be $49 + $1 theft prevention fee.

In, MA, it's $41, but they no longer send out a notice...so Deval is banking on people forgetting so they can get ticketed.

Plymouth Rock insurance has a reminder service, though....you do not have to have them as your insurer either. I used that and I actually got my reminder yesterday.

Phoenix. Close enough and lots of sunshine.

Deserts are never a good place to live.

Eh? I love Phoenix. Awesome weather nearly year round, except for the monsoon season when it storms out.

I came to Kahleeforneeya 22 years ago...for a 6-8 week construction job...and never left.

In spite of all the bullshit, it's been a pretty decent place to live, but the bullshit's been getting deeper and deeper of late.

If the dammed housing market would come back up, we'd sell and move out of state.

I'm tired of supporting all the illegal immigrants. they get aid from the state (and ultimately the feds) with welfare, food stamps, & medi-cal, they (usually) qualify for reduced electrical, gas, and phone rates because of lower income, they've filled the low-income housing tracts, bankrupted hospital emergency rooms, drive up the cost of education because of the special programs and bi-lingual education programs, they're the source of most of our gang activity, meth labs, and car thefts. (They qualify for state/federal aid because of "anchor baby" kids.)

The overall liberal stuff I can overlook. As a life-long Democrat, I'm used to supporting social programs I may or may not like, but for AMERICAN citizens...not citizens of OTHER nations.

NO immigrant, legal or illegal should be able to collect welfare of any kind. If they can't support themselves, deport them.

The Kahleeforneeya Citizen Committee that sets the salaries of elected officials just cut the salaries of those officials by 18%. Now then need to slash their per diem rates as well, and cut out-of-state travel and "junkets" by these officials who galavant around the country...and the world for various reasons.

Wanna cut costs? Start by cutting at the top...from the people who can best afford the cuts, NOT those on the bottom who barely get by as is.

pretty much. the pc left have dragged california down. they cannot even begin to acknowledge that the children of illegals are a massive drain on the ssytem.
dwarfing anything paid by the illegals in taxes by a wide margin..from what i remember even if you include all the taxes paid nation wide by illegals it doesn't cover the educational costs of just californias illegals children. never mind the warping of the labor market/devaluing of jobs/labor for worst off of california. the left kicking the poor in the nuts because they are so fearful of being called racists. you know its gone badly wrong when illegals are brazen enough to march in public these days shouting in spanish.

i'm more or less a democrat as well, but issues like this make me kind of dubious of any democrat as well. stuff like healthcare reform without stemming the tide of illegals just doesn't work at all. i just don't see the democrats doing jacksquat about illegal immigration so everything else is dead in the water. and thats a shame. stupid party loves undermining itself.

The people would rather CA go bankrupt than cut funding or raise taxes. I'm pretty damn tired of all those commercials saying how cutting teachers is such a horrible thing. From personal experience a lot of teachers are dead weight and can't teach if their life depended on them. Letting bad teachers go won't really hard education anyway. Then there's that stupid commercial accountant saying how it's bad to limit spending all the money the state has on good years; seriously wtf on that one.

It took forever for this year's budget to get passed. People need to learn that you can't take without giving something in return.

Down one big sink hole. Californians that give a shit are beginning to realize the best government is one that provides for civic services and gets the fuck out of everyone's way.

Amen. I'm waiting for a president to say that. All the government should do is provide upkeep of infrastructure, defense for the union, and foreign relations. No hand-holding, no baby-sitting, no moral police.

Reform the state constitution to get rid of the stupid 2/3 majority needed to pass a budget and all will be well.

No need to worry the fed will simply turn the printing press at FULL SPEED and bail us out. What's another couple of Billions when your printing Trillions. California is too big too fail.

We've earned a Fed bailout. Our taxes subsidize all the Southern states.

Say good-bye to agencies like SEC, FCC, FDA, BBB, CDC, EPA, USPS, etc.? What happens to bankruptcy law? Do businesses owners enjoy limited liability in case shit happens?

Where in the hell would you go? The nation is three steps behind California. You'd have to leave the country.

As California goes, so goes the nation.

I lived in San Francisco briefly and then in a Bay Area suburb. Went to college in northern CA. I love California.

With that said, there are a bunch of idiots on the top running things to the ground, and not just politicians. My high school got a 500k grant back in 2000 to get new computers, only to find out after they're all installed that the electricity wasn't up to the task so the computers were just sitting there for 9 months (while it depreciates).

Went to a CSU for my undergrad. Did you know how many jerkoffs with well off parents just drank and didn't do crap and failed classes? Since higher ed is heavily subsidized, why didn't the state go after people who fail too many classes and charge them with out of state tuition for the classes they failed? How about all the remedial classes since a lot of students obviously are not cut out for higher ed? Our education is so broken that we can't teach the next generation to be critical thinkers when it comes to personal finance, responsibility, and ultimately they become sheeple voters.

Or Caltrans spending billions on a freaking bay bridge (and still not finished yet).

How about abuse of welfare? I went to a dentist in SF once and didn't have dental insurance, so I just had my teeth cleaned. She asked me why didn't I report an address in SF to get city's health/dental insurance

CA has become hell for the middle class. 9% tax on anything you make above 45k? That's too much. I think we as a nation has a vested interest for the well being of CA, but it's not unreasonable to force them to cut services and entitlement programs.

Disclosure: Already left CA.
