I'm 5'9 1/4" and 175#. Looking to lose about 10# or so.

For the last week I've been eating a bowl of cereal for breakfast, a cup of soup for lunch, and a salad and fruit for dinner. I occasionally eat nuts or pretzels as a snack.

So far no results.

I've never really watched what I've eaten before. How long does this weight loss thing take?

try some cardio and eating a bit more
if you don't eat enough your body goes into starvation mode and holds onto every calorie and fat molecule for dear life

Because you need to work out, plain and simple. Either running or weightlifting. Otherwise, no matter what happens, you will never really deviate from that weight for any length of time.

That's an absolutely horrible way to lose weight. Not only will you feel like crap from being hungry all the time, but your body is actually working against losing the weight. And then when you do lose the weight, and start eating regularly again, you'll just gain it all back and MORE, because your body will think it'll be subject to starvation again, so it'll pack as much fat on as possible.

There are so many ways of losing weight out there, so perhaps you should research one that appeals to you. Starvation will work, but it's an awful way of losing it.

You are eating too many carbs too. When I am really trying to cut I go to 1300 calories with at least 250 grams of protein and 1 hour of cardio with weightlifting 5x a week but thats only if ya wanna drop like 3+ lbs/wk

You'll start losing weight as soon as you learn how. At this moment, it doesn't sound like you do. Go low on carbs and high on proteins and fats, not the other way around :)

Diet and excercise, also note, that if you wish to keep the weight off you cannot go back into your old habits. It is a lifestyle change, not a magic fix. That being said, could I take your 10 pounds? /me is trying to gain heh

Umm there are 7 calories/gram of protein, so that equals 1750 calories from the protein alone. Also unless you are about 250 pounds or so your body will not process all of those proteins, it will either be converted to fat, or will pass through your system.

Wrong

Protein and Carbs are both about 4calories/gram. Fats are roughly 8 calories/gram.
EDIT: But you are right. His body could not metabolize all that protein. Roughly speaking, taking any more than 50g of protein in a single sitting isn't worth it. Beyond that point, your body can't metabolzie it.

Yeah, I have to start excercising more. I've been trying to walk for about 45 minutes at lunch or do stairs. I do a fair number of push ups and sit ups per day.

I used to weigh 145# and could bench 225# but that was many moons ago.

I thought proteins and carbs were 7 and fats were 9?

/edit it is 4/4/9

at any rate you are consuming 1000 calories of 1300 from protein? I doubt that is possible. Even protein whey has other things in it. (carbs)

Still, that's a fsckin lot of protein for an average person.

i think its 3000 cal. = 1lbs, so if stopped eating you could lose 2/3rds of a lbs per day, or if u just went for a super model diet of <1000 cal per day u could lose half a pound a day . of course u have to excercise like normal so that u still consume 2000 cal per day.

Ah you fools who think that dieting alone will get you to lose weight! You have to Ride the Snake! Use the vibrating heat suit and take a whole bunch of meth! LOL!

Anyways, if you want quicker results you're going to have to exercise. I'd go with some ow impact weight training as cardio isn't always the best for those not used to much activity. Hope I helped some.

I eat about 4000 calories a day and I weigh 130 while being 6 foot even. You don't need to lose the weight, just give it to me!

Please never give diet-related advice to anyone else again. Seriously, don't.

its 3500 but its more of a myth as you lose weight the number changes as your body will change to it.

I like the example of someone here who said something like this:

If you lose 3500calories in a week = 1lb over a year thats 52lbs. If you did this over 4 years say and you weighed about 200lbs would you disappear? OF COURSE NOT! It gets to a point where you won't lose much weight if any by diet lifestyle change alone. You have to do some exercise and cardio!

I'm 5"10 and 175lbs at night and drop to 160lbs mornings. You can lose a lot of weight by water retention. My friend dropped 22lbs in about 12 days. He wanted to enter a new Weight Lifting class and he decided how he'd lift at the lower weight class. He ate minimal food and minimal water throughout that period of time. He looked *ill* and *weird* but he cut the weight and lifted badly. Hes not going to cut again.

1litre of water = 1kg.

Hence my big weight change.

Your weight is good.

If I were you I would go to the gym. Squat, bench, deadlift and do other stuff. You will tone up in no time it just takes time. I'd say work out 3x a week for 2 months and you will really notice a difference. You trained before so train now.
