Marvel got angry after a bunch of terrible movies, and then said: we need to do this shit ourselves.
Got their own official studio, and bam... it's been all good things since.

But then.... it is unbelievably awesome, this news here!

Actually, Marvel originally licensed Spider Man and X-Men for almost nothing. Marvel kept the rights to make the toys based on the movies.
Marvel saw how well the toys were selling, and licensed Daredevil, Electra, etc. What really got Marvel into the movie biz was how those crappy movies still made money.

At that point, Ike Perlmutter, the owner of Marvel, started his own studio. It was this studio that actually made the second Hulk, which was not a great movie. But once again the movie made nice money.

Interesting side note. The only reason Ike Perlmutter purchased Marvel, was because he owned a company called Toy Biz, and they had the rights to make Marvel based toys. When Marvel went bankrupt, Perlmutter only bought Marvel so that he would retain the right to make their toys.

At that point Perlmutter brought in some bright guys, who came up with the idea of giving away the rights to make movies for almost nothing, but retaining the rights to the toys for those movies.

Aside from the 2 episodes of The OFfice he directed, I have not seen a single thing this guy has done. People seem to like the guy though for whatever reason. :hmm:

I hated Buffy, but a friend convinced me to watch Firefly and I found that to be a fantastic show. Dr. Horrible was an amusing mini-series-type-thing as well.

I got in on the Amazon Lightning Deal for Firefly on Blu-Ray a couple weeks back, but we're probably going to save it until summer.

If you hate musicals, it's not for you... but a musical chronicling the rise of an aspiring super-villain to the Evil League of Evil? Good stuff 😀

I abhor musicals, so I think I'll skip it. I'll add that Firefly movie to my queue though.

Funnily enough I've never watched The Wire either, but it looks like too much of a commitment now.

I suppose if you were willing to spend 7.5 minutes on the first tidbit, you could determine if you would find it palatable.
I tend to find the songs popping into my head at random, but that's one of my favorites.

I'm not female so had no reason to watch Buffy.

A female oriented show is no reason to watch just cus they are hot. That's like watching Dancing with the Stars or American Idol cus there are people are hot in it. You can see hot people anywhere. I may be desperate but not desperate enough to watch crap like that just cus there's some eye candy.

DC has changed their tactics with the Green Lantern Movie. I have high hopes.

Martin Campbell directing and Ryan Reynolds as Hal.

Last I heard they were going to CGI his entire suit. Sounds pretty shitty to me. I also HATE that they casted RR. He will not make a good Hal Jordan. He is pretty much the opposite of what they should have cast. They should have gotten someone like Chris Evans who they cast as Captain America.
This sounds EXACTLY like casting Ben Affleck as DareDevil. He is a good face with a teen girl following. They are hoping to get ticket sales as a "date movie". They are going in the wrong direction.

Is Summer Glau going to be in it?

She's awesome.

Uh, was Dollhouse a female-oriented show?

J.W. is more of a women-empowerment type person, and that's what I got out of Buffy, and not it being a female show. That's like saying anything with a female lead is directed only for women.

but it's got hot chick who knows kung fu and kills stuff with swords and pretty funny dialogue.

I agree. I usually just ignore anything about ultimate universe.

The Ultimates started out pretty good (where they got the Sam L. Jackson version of Fury) but kind of went downhill.

Ultimate Spiderman was pretty good too for a while and Ultimate Iron Man was ok.

Ultimate F4 and X-Men. Sucked ludicrously hard.

waiT! lol Ryan Reynolds is doing Green lantern and playing Deadpool? lol doing a DC movie and a Marvel movie.

him being cast as Deadpool is great. i can't think of anyone better for it. But as hal? the green lantern? oh hell no. he is going to suck.

Except it wasn't a "female oriented" show.

Yeah, I don't mean full-blown musical as in nobody ever talks, there's plenty of dialogue in it as well.

Technically speaking, musicals always have spoken dialogue. The main thing that separates Operatic style from "musical theater" is that all of the dialogue in an Opera is sung. Translating the classics, there really isn't anything about the dialogue that is elevated compared to modern musicals. he drama is pretty much the same, as are the characters.

I think people tend to look at Opera as more elevated an art form because it is often written in a language that they don't understand. True, the performers have very different styles of voice compared to a Broadway singer, costumes may be more elaborate, but when you strip away the surface elements, there are few differences between the two.

Lol. Because Batman Begins, The Dark Knight and Watchmen were soooo wrong. 😛
Listen. I loved Watchmen and thought they did great. I don't care for Bale/Nolan's portrayal of Batman. I honestly think the almost phase him out as a character and make it more about Bruce Wayne. I do love the Joker portrayal but honestly the ending of Dark Knight was kinda shitty. Everything up to the Ferries were great and the upside down speech was great.

With that said, I am talking DC from there forward. The Green Lantern will be an absolute travesty. Some how they had some of the most loved characters yet can't seem to get them going, while Marvel is already getting obscure characters feature films. The Justice League is the coolest superhero consort and yet the Avenger's, who the average joe probably couldn't even describe is already hugely anticipated.

There's no need to get anal 😛

well to be honest the ultimate universe kinda sucks.

I like it, throws out a lot of the crap from 30 years of inconsistent comics and just goes for shock and awe and insanity "omg the hulk ate that guy and had a boner!"

Plus, their movies and cartoons seem to be heavily based on the ultimate universe, though not completely.

I'll add that Firefly movie to my queue though.

The movie is basically the last episode of the show. Don't watch it without seeing the show first.

Given the box office revenues and critical reviews of the most recent Batman movies, I think a very significant majority (including myself) would disagree; and some of Marvel's more "obscure" hero movies (ie: Silver Surfer, Fantastic 4) kinda sucked. They also turned Peter Parker into a pusscake.

Personally I think The Dark Knight is arguably the best of all Super Hero movies to date, but I don't want to turn the thread into another TDK debate.

As for The Green Lantern, I'll wait and see. Everyone said Ledger would be a horrible Joker and Keaton would be a horrible Batman.
