Most sushi isn't raw at all. The salmon is usually smoked. Tuna is usually served raw, but it's usually pretty safe too because it comes from colder waters anyway. The real danger is from tropical fishies that are caught in warm waters and brought in on boats with poor freezers. 😛

50? That's all? Luckily I'm 6'2", ~300 lbs.

Yesterday afternoon, to celebrate finals and the semester being done, my wife and I went out for sushi and dinner. I ate 5 plates of 6 piece sushi, and that included dinner, and I was still wanting for more, just stopped because of money issues. For one of my brother's birthdays I ate about 80, moaybe 90 pieces. I was hurting afterwards (in the wallet area), but damn, there's this place nearby that has good sushi, not as good as back home in Hawai`i, but pretty good.

Mostly spicy tuna rolls, and salmon skin rolls.

I think we have a winner so far.. 80-90. sheesh!

You've been eating some crappy sushi if "the salmon is usually smoked."

I just like going to Todai, getting the salmon and abacore tuna, seperating them from the rice, dip them in soy sauce and eating them that way. Can do a lot like that, but then I'd have to smash all the rice balls together to make it look like I got steam rice and took a bite or two out of it. Don't want them complaining that I don't eat the rice with it.

Mouth watering already. Must resist.

My record is about 1/2 of a piece of salmon. It was quite disgusting...but at least I can say I know I don't like it because I've tried it...not like many people who are too wussy.

When I have sushi at home, it's usually just spicy tuna with no rice. If I have fresh tuna from a fishing trip, I'll use that, otherwise there are several stores near me that sell sushi-grade tuna. Mix it up with a little red pepper sauce + a little bit of mayo, and a cucumber & seaweed salad on the side, maybe some radish sprouts in there too. Who needs rice! 🙂

50 pieces of sushi in all you can eat sushi restaurant in Westin, Seattle, WA.

Had to remove some of the rice from the sushi and eat it sashimi style 😛 had a hard time trying to conceal those rices LOL.

I was 5.6 and abt 180-190 lbs back then.

I stopped eating like that anymore. The most I think I can stuff into my tummy is 20 now.

LOL that's sashimi... ask for that next time and you won't get the rice.

Picked up 32 rolls from Trader Joe's on lunch break! 😀 Traffic was terrible however, so I took a little detour on the way back and ended up discovering a neat 20% grade massively curvy road. Vroom vroom! 😉

If you're in LA and want good sushi, go to Takao's on 11656 San Vicente Blvd, Santa Monica.
By far the best sushi you'll get outside of Ginza Sushi-ko. Not *terribly* expensive by good sushi standards but knowing how cheap most AT'ers are, it would classify as a "special occasion" restaurant (figure at least $40-50 per person).

For good all-you-can-eat in a fun environment, I recommend California Rockin' Sushi in Hermosa Beach. Nowhere near the "best" sushi but a very big variety of interesting specialty rolls, the fish is fresher than most places, and lots of good music.

It's not that exotic imo. Just rice rolled up in that seaweed paper with vegetables and fish that may or may not be cooked. I think to some it might not be rich enough for them... but that's the reason why i love sushi and sashimi. The food is so light. Great meal for a hot afternoon.

Yeah, sashimi is more of an acquired taste. Some people are gross out by the thought of it... some by the texture... and some by the taste.

sushi is really good, the sashimi to be specific. i like the eel, and salmon. not as much tuna, the tuna sashimi is too mushy for my taste.

i love sushi, and im not even japanese either. im chinese. my japanese friend introduced me to sushi and ive loved it ever since. only problem is that its expensive.
