I misread the directionalty; NYC is not 40% more expensive pitt is 40% of NYC making NYC 150% more expensive.

This assumes, though, that you spend all of the money that you make instead of saving it. The differential in cost of living only applies to money spent on living expenses. Also, I don't think taxes are taken into account: which of-course, being progressive, hurts those who live in higher col cities.

Senior System Admin
Orange County, CA
$120k-140k I am hourly so my pay changes depending on how much OT, On-Call pay etc I get.

-Compliance officer/auditing plus my own small biz
-Southern USA
-More than minimum wage and less than 500K

I make about $800-1100 in cash a week as a bartender/serve in the Chicago Suburbs.

No paid holidays or vacation though. Granted, I can take off pretty much whenver (within reason), I just don't get paid. No other benefits either. My paychecks are almost always $0, so I'll owe a little on taxes at the end of the year, but that still equates to the take home of somewhere from $40-70k a year depending on the tax situation.

My monthly bills (no food or fun) are only $850 though.

Just started a new job in LA. 100k plus I'm told they do 15% bonuses. Java programmer for web. Used to do c++ stuff and new job is letting me learn as I go. Best job I've ever had
