whats your credit card's APR, and how did you get it that low?

my roommate's citibank platinum card was at 17.7%, he called the customer service line and the 1st rep offered to lower it by 1%. that wasn't enough so he asked to close his account. he was put on hold and transferred to an "account supervisor" that offered him 0% for the next 12 months and 7.49% after the 12 month period. he agreed to keep the account open.

so from 17.7% to 0% for 12 months then 7.47% afterward. this is incredible I want to try that as well, but i'm afraid they wont offer and i'll lose my credit card. anyone else tried doing this before or know a better way to lower your APR?

Mines 7.9% (Prime + 2.9%), the lowest that USAA allows. I just called and asked.

Call em up and tell em you are deployed. They'll drop it to 4% for a year, no questions asked.

My AMEX has an actually APR of 0% and nominal APR of 15%. Whatever the fuck that means. Citicard has the lowest w/ 12.4%.

I don't give a shit what mine is because I always pay it off each month and I won't even bother trying to get it low unless I can get it to like ~5% permanently.

Just ask, if they say no then just accept it or cancel and apply for a new one with a rate you like. It is not hard to get a card unless you have an absolutely horrible credit rating (even then it is not that hard).

OR you can just pay your bill on time and not have to worry about APR.

1. I'm not even in the service anymore.
2. I'm not deployed.
3. I don't lie period, let alone to a company that has been very good to me.
4. I've never paid a dime of interest on a CC anyways, so theres no point.

If tragedy ever hit me and my cash reserves were not enough, 7.9% wouldn't kill me.

Yes, but sometimes people 'get fired' or get 'cancer' and have a sudden flip in income to expenses.

1. I forgot; Green to gold right?
2. Didn't say you were; but if you were reserved and get put on orders to go somewhere, even to another state, or activated by the state when in the national guard it still applies.
3. I'm not saying lie. 7.9 is a great rate, esp if you don't carry a balance. And yes they are the best company around, period.

agreed

too many americans are in debt because of financial irresponsibility. credit cards rely on that to make money.

Not true. I just checked my USAA and I'm at 6.75% <---direct copy and paste from my account.

Mines a platinum card if that matters (prime plus 1.75)

what criteria do lenders look at in order to give cards out at 5.9%?

not sure, but im surprised that BoA honored MBNAs low fixed APRs.
