I'm at the point where I rarely do anything beyond read the topic & first couple of comments... virtually every thread on P&N these days quickly degrades into a pointless argument by roughly the 10th response.

our precepts are our world, and we all have a bit of an ego problem in that we think our personal worlds should be everyone elses.

This has nothing to do with goals! This is slightly less boring than TV.

I never said anything about a life goal. Many people who come here have a goal, unlike OT where the point is to waste time. I wanted to know the goals of those who have them.

You thought wrong, lassy. There are no goals here, just bickering and bitter fist shaking.

If you want 'goals' buy a wall calendar and start scheduling some 'goal' attainment.

I generally don't.

What I get a kick out of is that I listen to NPR almost exclusively and suspect that I get a lot of the mainstream Democratic viewpoints by doing so, I surf over here to see what the outliers of the bell curve are thinking, planning, plotting.

I truly find it unfortunate that the Dems were unable to unify the party or find an electable candidate during the last election, all they needed was a moderate that actually owned a gun in real life (not just for photo ops) & wasn't a complete tool.

Political plurality - our famous checks and balances now under concentrated attack by the radical right, accountability, transparency, continual education, and some true, 'liberal' ethos of the inclusion of ALL of us - are our strongest tools.

To those 2nd amendment nut cases I say, come back to me when the gummint allows you to have cruise missles and fighter jets and we'll talk.

And because I can't simply let this go by without a response...

I laugh at the moral elitists and self-appointed psychologists of the masses who so quickly lay down their arms and therefore their right to defend their freedom, all the while complaining about the people who assault their freedoms.

The gun grabbers complain loudly about the Patriot Act and how it infringes on their rights. They complain about the President who so craftily stole his position out from under it's rightful heir, John Kerry. The fact that Bush did so by using the very system which those same gun grabbers expect to save them from such shenanigans amuses to no end. The gun grabbers fail to see the paradox that they support. They say that guns cannot be used to defend freedom in this country, and that we should give up our arms and use the ballot box, while they proceed to whine about how Bush and his cronies in the Supreme Court and at Diebold were able to steal an election. If they believe their own conspiracy theories about the ease with which an election can be subverted, and they see no need for arms, how do they intend to rid themselves of Bush?

Finally, gun grabbers also like to talk about how armed conflict against the US government is impossible without missiles and jets. They chortle when speaking to "gun nuts" because a rifle can't stop a tank. Those same gun grabbers are many of the same people who fear the Iraqi insurgents, and want immediate withdrawal of our troops from Iraq. I don't understand how they could fear the insurgents, after all they're a bunch of people with rifles. Surely they can't stand up to US tanks and missiles. What are those insurgents thinking? They have no hope of changing US policy with their puny firearms, so they should just give up and lay down their guns.

What's sad is that people like Perknose who seem intelligent don't seem able to grasp the fact that they're just as prone to doublethink as those they ridicule.

When I post here it´s usually to correct some misinformation, since it annoys me.

There are a few that think posting here will affect our civilization and the way we live. For those, one bit of advice: Get a career where you can actually make a difference. Choose a philosophy and make it a life goal and do something real about what you believe. Posting here won't do it. A few of the more rageing libs here have started their own web sites. That is sort of a crippled up start, but they really have to dive off the high board to make a splash.

Reality is the word. They simply deny reality. I once was a Dim voting lib. When I had gotten enough of like under my belt, I realized that reality rules and to deny it is to stumble and ultimately fall. After having skinned my shins a few times, I came to grips with reality and now make most decisions based on it. Life is a lot simpler!

Posting in this particular place makes no difference, sharing and expressing Ideas does make a difference. Without the exchange of Ideas there can be no advancement. Many Ideas are exchanged here.

I suppose the question must be asked: If you feel this place is so useless and a waste, why do you spend so much time here?

It started out as an interesting way to pass the time, then I discovered it was an excellent way to be exposed to a wide variety of sources of information on current events. As time went on, I started hoping that the clarity of my analyses would be illuminating to others and they would see what was oblious to me and abandon their ridiculous, unsupportable positions. Then I was dismayed at how they strived to support those positions by slinging sh!t, and some were banned for personal attacks and others just for frustrated or bored and went away. I don't come here as often as I once did, but keep checking in to see if it will come back as a place for good discussions.
