Whats your "gmail status?"

I have my own domain, so gmail is pointless to me.

I also don't own an ATI X800, ricer case, fastest P4EE or A64, or much of any other geek status symbols (though I'm definitely a stereotypical software developer geek / nerd).

I could afford to, but I don't care. I spend money where I see some benefit (like 650 GB of storage plus 500 GB of backup for my FLAC lossless music server), and the rest goes off to Schwab.

you could have saved more money by useing MP33, less HD space needed 😀

The one thing I like about gmail is that it doesn't have to re-load the page to perform an action... it's much quicker.

EDIT>>> well at least it doesn't appear to refresh the whole page, it's so quick at doing it, it looks like it's just javascripting stuff over... I thought firefox was quick at page loading... this is in IE too.

Remember that it's only limited amount of users that are using the servers right now. Once it's public, I bet you'll be complaining how slow it gets.

I just got upgraded to 100MB Yahoo email for free, so I don't need Gmail and it's invasive email scanning and ads. Kudos to Yahoo.

Plus I have my own domain for family members and friends to use.

Ditto.

True - though as long as it's not slower than Yahoo/Hotmail, that's fine.

I've got 2 already. 😀 That being said, I'm sick of hearing about it. It's nothing special really (my work is my primary and I still use my Yahoo account more than Gmail.) Most people won't even come close to needing 1GB of storage. I'm just glad I was able to get in really early and get the 2 ids of my choice without having them already taken.

I have an email account that fufills all my needs: accessable by any internet-connected computer (a high priority for me), not bulky and overloaded with useless graphics (for when I am on dialup), hosted by a reliable service that isn't just going to go under or quit out and cancel the service. Plus, I have a seven-letter username that is my name, and just that. Find me another service that does all of that. Without graphic ads, please.

You should check out the mail server that I use. 10 gig of storage space. It's called having my own damn server setup and not jumping on the bandwagon.

How much do you pay per month for hosting with 10gb storage?

Only cost me a case of beer 😀 Friend of mine is letting me use his colocated server.

And how can you compare this to Gmail then? 🙂 You got lucky and got something for free. It would cost you at least $15-20/month to have such hosting... and that's "AT LEAST" 😉

I agree that I did get lucky in my case but you have to understand that I am the exception. You can get 500 meg of space with any server with your own domain for only $42/year. And this is much better than gmail because you can use up to 5 different domains.

Anyone spare an invite for an old timer? Interested to see if the spam filters / interface are really that much better than most webmail...

If you grab too many messages at once with a POP3 program, Yahoo will make your inbox temp-unavailable. Couldn't figure out why it happened to me for a while...

Most of the good names are pretty much all taken up. Time to bust out the numbers and underscores. 😛

If anyone wants to use POP3 with GMail, it's available here.

Gmail is for losers, and i'm sick of YAGMT's-- i really dont care about the email thing. I got yahoo and isp and msn, so i dont need anymore.. who cares if its 1gb go out, kill yourself or something!

*hope i cleared gmail up*
