This is why we need an official GOTY thread with different categories and member-generated nominations before the vote. Oh, and do it AFTER the year is up ;).

What else is coming out this year?

Neopets Puzzle Adventure could end up being the sleeper hit of the year.

Oh, I don't know.....maybe give people time to finish some of the games that's come out in the past 2 months? Not everybody is glued to their controller.

I'm with you, I spent more time this year playing Forza 2 then I did last year, and most of my year was taken up with older games (Orange Box, CoD 4, Gears 1). Of all the big games for this year I've played through GoW 2, played a bit of GTA IV (it was a rental), and that's it. GTA IV was alot of fun, GoW was fun but so glitchy I can't give it a GOTY vote...considering how much I liked Gears 1 I am amazed by how many bugs there are that they just let slip by...

GTA4 for sure. Every one of those games is fantastic, but GTA4 rubbed me in a way the other games just couldnt. I'm sure being a NYer and causing carnage around the city I grew up in has a lot to do with it, but man, I love that game. Its not even just a game, its like a little world on a disc. Can't wait for the DLC.

I would have to say my game of the year is either Burnout Paradise or Hot Shots Golf: Out of Bounds.

I'm quoting this because neither were added to the list. I'd like to see Madden 09 & MLB08 The Show added as well.

Saint's Row 2. There are other games this year that are better written, have better voice-acting, and far better writing, but no other game has been so completely over-the-top FUN that it's gotten me to 97% completetion of the game... and I intend to go and finish off that other 3% this weekend.

He didn't add Persona 4, either, so don't feel bad. That game has a 94% on GR and MC - if that's not GOTY material, I don't know what is.

Fallout 3 and I really enjoyed Dead Space as well. But it's hard to choose, so many great games this year.

Someone asked about the GotY poll in the Gamespot GotY thread, so I'm bumping.

Wish I could have spent more time on GTA IV, I will say it was the game I was most anticipating pre-release this year (until my wife informed me that I would NOT be playing it in her presence!). I got partway through whilst she was on vacation, it was alot of fun, but probably not GotY for me.

MGS4
The only thing with MGS4 is that you really have to be a fan of that type of game and understand that every Metal Gear Solid game has had long cut scenes. If you don't like to sit and not play the game and watch movie after movie then it's not for you.

I didn't really enjoy Fallout 3 as much as I thought I would have. Seems it was overhyped like Dark Knight. I got very bored of it. Many of the quests were boring and felt like they had no connection to anything. I tried doing as many quests as possible to lvl-up and get better weapons and such. The graphics were ok and most of the dialogue sucked.

if i could get past the crashes @ "new game" on fallout 3, I might have some input... L4D is my vote- lots of replayability, even if the game is short

L4D and replayablility don't go together. Not enough content for replayability. Same 4 maps for campain, same guns, and same 2 maps for versus. Even with The Director, it doesn't provide that much variety to have great replay value. I can't wait until the new stuff comes out though cus I really do like the game, just bored of it.

mgs4 for consoles, witcher:ee and l4d for pc.

fallout 3 while immensely pleasurable, was unpolished and flawed in comparison to any of these games.

I know the voting is very close. I voted for MGS4. When looking at the choices I take into account what developer was striving for and did they complete that to the best of their ability and Konami certainly did. Fallout 3 is great but there are not many games that hit such a mark that MGS 4 does.
