He might have a nice divx collection, but divxs quality sucks compared to dvd i dont care what anyone says.

Yeah, that's the crux. Now, you can get them cheaper than $10-$15. In fact under $8 if you work Columbia House right. But I try hard not to buy DVD's I figure I'll only watch a time or two. Many people have favorite movies they watch dozens of times.

What is "anime"? I've seen it talked about in this thread before and did a search but couldn't figure it out.

Around ~150 DVDs. I used to track them with DVD profiler but it became a PITA.

I have almost every DVD I've ever had in a high quality rip on my HD, and maybe a couple dozen on official discs.

"high quality" and "rip" don't belong in the same sentence. Unless you have every DVD sitting on your hard drive uncompressed (~9gb each) then it means it was recompressed and you lost an assload of quality, not to mention surround sound.

maybe they look fine on a 19" monitor or 25" TV, but I tried DivX and other rips on my toshiba 50" widescreen HDTV and it looks unbelievably horrible. </brag>

Well, I bought a DVD player a few years ago when they first started to get popular, I never really used it much because I always had a pos tv. I just got a nice 32" wega and surround sound the other day, so I'm starting to get into DVDs. I had Blade and Terminator 2, and I just bought Saving Private Ryan. I would like that Band of Brothers set, but its pretty expensive. Family guy is definitely on my list as well

Here is mine. (The numbers are where the discs are in my DVD changer.)

I'm still adding discs, and have quite a few that haven't made it into the changer yet (yes, I'm lazy), and still others that need to come back out of the changer and get sold.
None of the TV series discs I have are in there, like all of the Simpsons, Friends, original Star Trek AbFab and a bunch of others. My Godfather trilogy is also not in yet.

BTW, I rarely will buy a non-anamorphic DVD. So there are some titles I'd like to have, but do not because of this.
