Did pretty well in 2010. I'm 6'2.5" and weighed 232 and am now down to 195 (well I was down to 190 but the holiday season and a knee injury took its toll on me).

Main goal this year is to drop down to 175-180 and get into more competitive running shape. Would like to increase my runs from three a week to four or five and increase distance on most of those from 4-5 miles to 6-8 with a longer on the weekend.

Also, to stop getting injured! Hurt my right knee doing Hadrian's Wall and then twisted my left knee on black ice running... would like the left knee to fully recover.

win a technical trail marathon (Twisted Ankle in May)
run a marathon in under 2:45 (Chicago maybe?)
resume supplementary weight training again

Scorch, there's a dandy of a technical trail marathon right in your own backyard. Ever heard of Sehgahunda? I'll be there looking for 5:30 or less this year.

Yep, and I debated doing it. But I have to redeem myself at Twisted Ankle first and foremost (got lost in the half and ended up missing out on the victory because of it). But Segahunda would be fun too! Are you doing it this year?

Yep. My eldest and I are both going to run it this year. I understand your motivation towards Twisted Ankle - we're doing Sehgahunda again for redemption.

Just getting back in the gym, between work and classes I've kinda been slacking lately. I keep up with my mma but I need to get back to lifting. My goals this year are not so much strength related, I'd like to keep my lifts about where they were when I stopped lifting, but drop my weight from ~240 to ~200 I also want to start competing in BJJ this year.

That's a good drop. Took me 3 years to go from 230+ to the upper 190's.

Hadrian's Wall, been there once. Beautiful country.

Run my first marathon.

That's pretty much my only goal right now. I haven't really thought about what I'll do after that (June+).

I started my cut a couple of weeks before New Year's. I am happy to report that I have dropped down a waist size, went from 38 to 36 as of this morning. The 36 pants were a little tight on the legs but I expected that as I have really big thighs from all the squats/hip flexor/abducter work I do.

Just to quit smoking. Not really a resolution but it happened to line up with the event. I'd also like to clean up my diet; I've started that but I hope I can last. The real killers are the things I don't really notice adding up (skipping breakfast, drinking coffee with cream + sugar, drinking, etc). I've got the food figured out, but I can't give up my coffee. I think the only middle ground is coffee and water. Maybe I'll switch to milk and just do 1/1 instead of 2/2.

Black coffee with zero calorie sweetener. I drink a TON of coffee... Probably too much, but I can't survive without it.

Yes, you can. You're just telling yourself you can't, thereby enabling your actions. Coffee is really unnecessary if you sleep enough, exercise, and eat well. One cup per day won't hurt you, but 3-4 starts to become a problem.

I don't drink it to keep me awake, I drink it because it's delicious. I could wean myself off, but what's the point of living if you can't enjoy the little things? :p

Moderation most certainly is everything. ;)

Usually I hit one coffee a day, which is a huge drop from my 3-4 a day I used to consume. Sometimes I don't have any, other times I have two. Not too bad, I think.

I did pretty craptastically towards my 2010 goals, partly due to competing in gear for a 4 months, partly due to my back injury.

2010 Goals:
Squat: 2.5x bodyweight (achieved - 400 @ 160)
Bench: 2x bodyweight (failed - 300 @ 171 current best)
Deadlift: 3x bodyweight (majorly failed - deadlift PR still 405 @ 163, set in 12/09 although to be fair, I haven't tried a raw max since January 2010)

2011 Goals:
Squat: 445 lbs
Bench: 325 lbs
Deadlift: 455 lbs

Well last year's was shot all to hell. Just wanted to stay injury free, and ended up fighting with sacroiliitis, and what I was told was a possible herniated disc causing sciatica. Add that to the right Achilles tendonitis, and 2010 was a real gut check year. Did not stop training, but did go to PT, get a cortisone injection, and miss a couple months of randori.

So, the goal this year, is to just manage things better i.e. not push the envelope like I was still a young guy.
