Hah you guys are stupid. I live in the South for 5 years now, and i know how things are. EVERY single immigrant that comes here, and is under 21 will tell you that this sh1thole state makes you bored to death. Thats why we try to work hard and save enough money to go back every summer. Obviously you haven't lived outside this country so dont argue.
Not to mention, i know over 40 immigrant families that live here, they say the same thing. We just came here for work. But still, my point is, ALL you have here is work, nothing else.
The way this place is "built" is so pathetic. Highways, trees, plazas, fast food. If i go outside right now, all i see are trees, a street, and there's a plaza about 3 miles down.

I'm not sure what "south" you're speaking of, but Atlanta, Athens, Baton Rouge, Austin, and many other southern cities are exactly like the ones he described above.
As far as your anecdotal data goes, I know quite a few immigrant families myself that would be more than happy to disagree with your point of view. It goes both ways.
Florida is allright i guess. It has a beach and it has stuff like Orlando. I went there for 2 weeks or so and there were people outside and it seemed allright.
I'm talking about freaking GA (God i hate this place so much), Tennessee, Alabama..

then move out of the city and into the burbs, or to another city, or to another state. the US is so vast, that well, you can't judge the whole by one slum. cuz um, most of the country is beautiful. but if you look hard to find the problems, thats all you will see. thats how it is, everywhere. you can find plenty of crummyness in France, in Britain, in Germany, in Greece, Italty, Netherlands, Belgium, Scotland, and even in Luxembourg.

if I look outside my house, all I see are other houses and the street I live on. Down the street there is a park. From my house I can't walk to a cafe, sure. But there are cafes. If I moved downtown, I could do that. But see, American cities are composed of housing zones, and commercial zones. The typical european city in a movie, or the one you described, are like New York City, where its apartments and the commercial zone mixed together. If you want to live in an apartment, then that kind of life is available in any city for the most part.
and work = life
i don't know what else you want to think life is. you gotta work to pay the bills to live. unless you want to be a bum on the street, then you dont have to work. but you cant get in anywhere or buy things because you have no job. thus no life still. welcome to life.

If you read carefully, you will see i am not talking about all US. As i said before, i hear the North is great. I'm talking about Southern states.

I understand your frustration with the US, but I can *assure* you, as someone who's spent considerable time in Europe, that it will be more unsatisfactory to you than the US is, albeit for different reasons.

?.. I went back last summer and i did not want to leave. I've lived there most of my life. Plus, it also depends on what parts of Europe you speak of.
When i came to the US i was very optimistic that here it would be 10x better. First year i stayed optimistic. I've moved 4 times here, everything from "near the city" to the suburbs. Everything sucked ass. See, if it wasn't so bad, i wouldn't point it out. If it was even close to what i had back in EU i wouldn't even bring this up. But its a sh1thole of boredom and thats the truth.
Btw: i was poor back in EU, so i didnt have a nice home when i refer to "what i had". What i had was a good time evey day and having the will to wake up in the morning. Not waking up and knowing that this weekend is going to be another day in the house doing nothing.
How do you know he spent time in Alabama? :laugh:

Oh Yea!! The ditches are a real PITA to avoid when riding a mountain bike to the nearest shopping center. :laugh:
It IS NOT 10 miles to the nearest store ... it is 3 miles.
I live near a town of about 200,000 and their idea of public transportation is a small fleet of mini-busses that only run a few routes. A town of 80,000 here that borders the "big" town has NO public transportation.
Our idea of fun is either going to the local Super Wal-Mart or going out to some field for some late-night tipping. :laugh:
The clubs suck here and I would give my left nut for a club here to play some good European Dance music instead of that cRap they call music.
There ARE SOME good-looking WHITE women here ... The only problem is that MOST of them are dating BLACK men.
There ARE a lot of fat people here. :laugh: My Russian wife said they all looked like pigs with big heads and little beady eyes. :laugh: She hated where I lived SOOOO much that she went back to Russia. :brokenheart:
