I find it funny that you bash Alabama and Georgia so hard. I worked with about 120 immigrants from Bulgaria, Turkey, Poland, Colombia, and a few other European Countries this past summer. Almost all of them wanted to stay in the US -- even in Alabama.

Sure, it is very different if you are *used* to Europe. I, for one, love Europe. I could even see myself living there, but my home is Birmingham, Alabama.

I've been to a lot of countries, and almost all of the 50 states. Sure, there are tons of different cultures, ways of thinking, food, etc. However, pretty much anyone is always going to prefer what they grew up with -- for most individuals at least. I've no allusions. I know there are uneducated and ignorant people here. I don't have statistics to prove if they are any more or any less here than anywhere else in the world. I do know, however, that my State currently has a great economy, cheap cost of living, several major Urban areas (Birmingham is really growing and is mainly White Collar now), easy access to beaches, lakes, airport, trains, and it also is where I was born.

Sure, I wouldn't mind living in Germany for several months -- I actually travel quite a bit. I don't see myself settling down in another state right now. I thought a year ago that I wanted to move out of the US, but it was just the travel bug.

Anyway, you are 16, so you know what that means? Your opinion is bogus, short-sighted, and totally asinine. Trust me. Everyone's opinion at 16 is labeled -- and should be labeled -- with that moniker. Wait until you age some, and you will realize how ignorant and short-sighted you were. I sure did, and I can't think of a friend or relative that didn't as well.

You don't know *anything* at 16, and NO you are NOT different. Every pseudo-intellectual 16 year old says that. They are all wrong. Oh, and I'm glad you don't have a car. 16 year old drivers are horrible. Oh, and NO there are NO 16 year olds that are good drivers.

Excellent post Mill. :thumbsup::beer:

I was 16 once...I thought I knew everything then too.

Exactly. There's not a 16 year old in the world that knows their ass from a tea-kettle.

I'll tell you what's wrong with the south. It's really only one thing, and every other problem we have branches from it:

Too many churches.

Keeping living this dream, but its unravelling quicker than ever.

Having visited 27 countries at last count and lived in 4 of them, I can say that the United States has it better than all of them. The European economies are slowly dying, weighted down with a massive social welfare system that will reform or die with the aging of the population in the next several decades.

Now, the majority of my time in the States has been in the South, and the OP is got it dead wrong. Certainly, small towns might fit the profile he creates, but people don't move to small towns or live in small towns for vibrant night life! Let's give a big, "Duh" to that insinuation. Ever visit Atlanta? Nashville? I lived in both places, and both had what you are looking for if you know where to look (and it's not that hard).

As for women, there are beautiful women everywhere. People in general tend to be thinner in Europe, but even that is changing lately as Europeans leave their traditional diets in favor of more processed foods. Even Japan is starting to have trouble with obesity for the same reasons. But, damn, the women in Tokyo are STUNNING! ;)

EDIT: One more thing. I didn't mean to imply that I dislike Europe or even Asia -- far from it, actually. I hope to live in Paris in a few years for a short while (2-3 years) or perhaps Poland for a couple years if I can get a particular assignment, which is a longshot unfortunately. There are things to love about all the places I've been, but no country I've seen or heard about has the things which the US does, especially in terms of physical beauty (the country, not the people).

Now, Iraq, on the other hand, is a dusty mess.

Self-hating goths.

ok, thanks for the info. Now, keep my head from exploding: how does Self-Hating Goth = EMO?

Goths hate everything except themselves, and think that they're superior to everyone. Emos hate everything including themselves, which they hate the most.

Ok, I guess I'm not being clear. What is EMO an abbreviation for, or what is it short for, or where did the phrase 'emo' come from. That's what I'm curious about. I'm not looking for definitions, I've got that now, I'm looking for etymology.

EVERY single immigrant that comes here, and is under 21 will tell you that this sh1thole state makes you bored to death. Thats why we try to work hard and save enough money to go back every summer. Obviously you haven't lived outside this country so dont argue.

Not to mention, i know over 40 immigrant families that live here, they say the same thing. We just came here for work. But still, my point is, ALL you have here is work, nothing else.

The way this place is "built" is so pathetic. Highways, trees, plazas, fast food. If i go outside right now, all i see are trees, a street, and there's a plaza about 3 miles down.

Yes, European women are hot.

since when is "the south" a state?

USA (At least.. in the South):

1) You got nowhere to go all day, all you have are malls and movies.

That is correct. You are 16 and you shouldnt stray too far from home. Did you not see Dateline last week?

2) You need a car to go everywhere, no cafe's, no living people outside walking, all you see are highways.

Yes you need a car. At 16 you can drive if you want to.You have a job. Buy a car like the rest of us and drive. What? You cannot afford it? Tell your Eurobuddies to send you over a scooter.

3) Everything is 10 miles apart.

I guess in Europe the countryside has all of the ameneties and closeness of a small Las Vegas, huh?

4) If you get in a fight in school it fuks up your whole life. You get sued, medical bills, record, colleges look at it etc.. Even if it was self protection.

In Europe, if you have a fight in school,do they even punish the offenders? Or are they let go to continue terrorizing the student body? Assault in this country is frowned upon. You should have a record. Yeah its not your fault you were just defending yourself. I guess walking away is not an option in the wide open spaces here in GA.

5) Everyone is allright with EMOs etc..

EMO's do what they do. Again, use all of the available 10 miles around you to walk away from them.

6) Lots of fat people.

Yes, fat is the new rage here in the south. They only get fat here, nowhere else.Hell, I think fat is outlawed in many states. Except here in GA and ALA. Of course.

7) Everyone is fake as hell.

Again, you must go outside your little circle you live in and try to find some people who are real. They are there, trust me.

8) Yes, good pay, lots of work, but yet.. no life.

Understand one thing about what is going on here:

Retirement: Why do you think we (your parents and most adults) work their sorry asses off day in and day out? We do not want to be that greeter at Wal Mart 25 years from now, who needs that 5.25/hr to live on. Unlike our brethren in Europe, we, as a whole , do not want to be dependent on our government to support us as we age. We want to be able to retire and take care of ourselves and enjoy ourselves. Not be shackled to some tiny apartment overlooking some wide avenue in Moscow.

What part of this horrible, disgusting, reviled, fastest growing state in the country with no bike paths or Starbucks on every corner, do you live in? I know you have issues, with you being 16 and all,but wait a bit longer before you take the low road to suicide to figure out that all of these horrific problems are just in your head. Yes, you are overreacting like any teen would and you cannot even begin to figure out what the real world is like. Do your parents understand how you feel? What? They are working all the time to support your filthy American lifestyle that you hate so much? How awful! Yeah, you work and I am sure that your salary keeps you awash in the latest fashions too.

Peace

Been to Europe............nice place to visit, great place to be from, awful place to live.

Why is the U.S. so spread out and the Euro countries are so tightly packed? Guess the OP just doesn't understand history at all.

The U.S. was "built" much later than the typical Euro city/country. So, when most of the US cities were laid out, much thought was put into not having the cramped quarters of the Euro cities that the immigrants/settlers had left behind.

Gotta remember, the Euro countries and cities were developed almost exclusively around human and horse traffic. And, yes, while a bit of the east coast was settled in while we, too, depended upon human and horse traffic, a LOT of the US was settled around TRAINS and then the automobile.

The period of time that the Euro countries and cities were settled and developed vs. the period of time the US was settled and developed can be measured in centuries at a minimum.

And the US is much vaster than Europe as a whole....so we chose to spread out because we could......and most of the European countries, during most of their time on earth, weren't exactly a bunch of friends. France wasn't exactly always a friend of Britian or Germany or Austria.......and Germany hated most other countries in Europe.........and Spain was another "We'll dominate you!" country for most of Europe's history.....and the list goes on. Most of Europe during its history has been, at one time or another, at war somewhere......Britian vs. France, Spain vs. Britian, Germany/Austria vs. whoever is the victim of the decade..........and the list goes on.

True, the US had its Civil War, but that was once, and we haven't been quite as bickering as the Euro countries have been until recently.....

So, you've got our size, our uniformity, our hemogeny, our wealth of natural resources, and you wonder why we spread out like we did? I'd wonder why we didn't considering our history vs. Europe's.

As far as fights...........who needs them? If the European countries are better because you can fight at will without reprecussions, I feel sad for them. Seems that if that is the case, their claim to civilization is on a downward slide.......and fast.

As far as Americans being fat........true. But the Europeans are second in obesity only to Americans. Seems an advanced industrialized society has that unfortunate consequence. You know, the consequence of lots of food, lack of physical effort in things (using cars to get around instead of walking a lot, etc.)

Yes, we work like hell......but if you cannot find things to do in your time off, I pity you. I find the beach to be nice, the mountains are great for hiking, concerts almost every weekend if I choose to attend, festivals, shows, and a host of other things all the time. And this is where all those highways come into play..........from Atlanta, which is where I am guessing you live, the mountains are just a couple of hours away, the beach is about 3 1/2 hours away, lakes are within an hour or so of you.........Chastain Park has concerts quite frequently, the Fox has something very often, and there is a ton of other stuff to do. I cannot help it if you don't own a car and cannot get out on your own and have to depend upon Mommy to take you wherever you have to go. Get a job, earn some money and buy yourself a car. Then go out and truly experience what is out there.

So basically the OP is just another douche who is unliked?

So because you get your ass kicked at school, can't drive, and the girls won't give you the time of day it's the South's fault?
