sysadmin I thought this thread was about the effects of alcohol and cigarettes on the Human body and not how the behaviour of a person is influenced by them?

<< Even when used in moderate amounts, the effects of cigarettes on the Human body, especially the lungs, are devastating. >>
So how do you explain Keith Richards? Granted he looks like a dessicated corpse, but that's from the heroin. >>
Who's this guy?
Anyway, the effects cigarettes have on the Human body are largely invisible, they're on the inside. For example, a certain type of cell on the inner walls of the lungs and trachea which are responsible for moving slime, which is produced by other types of cells in the same area and has as function keeping dust and other particles out of the lungs, are destroyed by substances in the smoke produced by burning a cigarette. Granted, these cells will return once the person stops smoking for a couple of years at least, but that's aside the point.
The alcohol from a single glass poses hardly a greater threat to the Human body than a glass of water, the alcohol actually helps to thin the blood, thereby reducing the risk on coagulations in the veins, which is the direct cause of heart-attacks and seizures
BTW, the people who say that alcohol is more dangerous than cigarettes are totally missing the point. This thread is about the moderate use of these substances. I would like to see someone get totally drunk after drinking a single glass of beer or wine.
