Most Asian people are cheap. Its what I've noticed throughout my life.

Yet many of their young dump thousands of dollars in aftermarket body kits to put on an imported economy car...

WTF, this is just as bad as the OP.

There is no such thing as an entire-race stereotype. Characterizing a whole race as greedy or cheap is absolutely impossible.

Thriftiness is a virtue in Asian culture.

IMO, being cheap and thrift is different from being greedy.

Wrong again Jules. Its the white kids that throw down their money on that crap. With regards to Asian kids, they could spend their money on their car and still be cheap.

I only spend money when there's a good cause to spend it. I donated money during the Tsunami.

I think that most people judge another person's worthiness based on how much money they bring in.

Hopefully I will never do that but I guess everyone does it from time to time.

and even those are different from correlating money with success and worth, which the OP's friend seems to do.

/zips up flame retardant underoos 😛

We are cheap because you western b@stards stole the patent to spaghetti from us and never paid us one red dime in royalties!!

Upbringing. I've noticed this too... dad wanted to hoarde money all the time (not cheap but won't spend unless necessary) while my mom didn't mind if we splurged from time to time. I went for the latter and have the same attitude. What's the point of making money if you can't enjoy it ? My younger brother saves everything. He's got like $30k saved up and he doesn't even have a high paying job. I do agree that more asian [parents] are savers than other races... at least from what I've seen. The cycle continues when this generation's savers attempt to teach their kids the same thing... drilling into their heads that money is important to have. I'd say the attitude can come about as a result.

BTW, Millionaire Next Door says most millionaires are money-hoarders. Ridiculous way to live a short life if you ask me.

Bullsh!t. Asian kids do it too, as do black kids and Mexicans and whites. Don't give me that load of crap and expect me to believe it.

Non-white people in this country don't get a whole lot of respect, unless they have something to show for it, and even then they don't really get much.

I know this from first hand experience. When I was a kid, my family didn't have much money, I didn't have the means to dress well and I lived in an apartment complex. I used to get all kinds of dumbass comments like "go back to your own country", and "does your Dad work at a 7-11". My family is better off now financially, and I don't think any cracker has the balls to make any of those kinds of comments to my face now.

I have to disagree, most of the West Indians I know who grew up in abject poverty are not obsessed with money, in fact they are the most generous people I know, whereas to most Asians I know money is the where all and end all.

a lot of people are like that. he is just annoyingly greedy and he argues his views instead of just trying to get more money quietly like a lot of greedy people

why do people always pick on those of oriental decent? 😕 every facet of society has their greedy people, poor people, ugly people, beautiful people, etc. etc.

i'm sure even the amazonians do. why must it always be Asians?

A lot of Asians in general have this mentallity of more pay equals better in society. That is why there aren't many Asian artists, film directors, dancers; they are ostracized. It is pretty sad. I have a friend who is Asian and a film director and he complained on how his father ignores what he does now. It is sad because he is very, very talented. He actually got called up by the Disney Studios while he was in college, but his dad probably won't recognize even that because being a film director isn't respectable in asian society.

It is just the way their parents instill this value system. But I would have to say that this value system isn't just based in Asian culture, just emphasized. Any culture you go to, the rich and famous are the ones who are seen as better than the general population.

And although Asians tend to be thrifty and don't spend much, in my experience they tend to be the most generous when it comes to gifts. Asians tend to throw money to family and friends who generally need it. It is hilarious to watch family fight over who gets to pay for what (they fight to pay for it, not the other way around). It is part of the culture to take care of people close to them, but if you aren't close to them, you tend to get the shaft.

Sidenote though: I generally find that the people who spend the time to complain about this issue, tend to not have money, and when they finally get money, they act the same way. If they didn't think money was really important, then it wouldn't bother them when pricks act that way.

QFT.

I've noticed the same thing about a lot of my Asian friends, and you know stereotypes come from somewhere... To be fair, it's the Asians from the area I went to high school that I've noticed exhibit this greed. They are ALL premed except for one guy who is business. None of them give a damn about anything except themselves. I asked one of them what he thought about sweatshops in Asia and he just acted goofy, you know, the typical Asian American goofy attitude.
