Which was the direct effect of Neo 'killing' him at the end of the first movie. Neo turned Agent Smith into the virus (funny how Smith ranted about viruses, too) that ended up being the ultimate threat to the Matrix and thus the machines' existance.

As for Neo controlling the machines outside of the Matrix, it's a little far of a stretch and was out of place IMHO, but it is just a sci-fi movie.

Hehe, i've pondered this question myself. Even tho neo is the one, there are a lot of others who shape his role even tho the focus is seemingly on him. His link to the machine world is one of the main reasons why he's the one. However, I don't get why the machines felt the need to install self-destruct devices in their robots just so neo could destroy them. His "link" to the machine world shouldn't allow him to be able to destroy machines in the physical world.

And I also don't get how the oracle can see the future. At most, she should only be able to see what will happen in the matrix, but not outside of it.

There was a great essay on iMDB explaining The Matrix Trilogy using a lot of connecting information and little bit of guessing in some parts but I can't find it anymore. I still think it was a great set of movies, I wanted more after The Matrix and that's what we got with the next two, and they didn't disappoint me.

One thing I could never set aside, or suspend disbelief in, is the whole humans as batteries thing. I mean come on, these brilliant machines and the best energy solution all their computing power can come up with is using humans as batteries. The whole premise is idiotic but I did like the first Matrix for the general story and action inside the Matrix. The other two movies just got even more absurd though.

Actually, of all the plot's twists and turns this on made sense to me. It is true, humans produce a certain amount of BTU's which theoretically can be converted into energy. Using humans as the energy source requires much less "manufacturing" effort (self-reproduction) and upkeep (feeding tubes) and a single pair of humans can reproduce dozens of times over the lifetime.

Just my theory
