i don't get it. That's the way online stores work.
You pay before item is shipped.

Technically you're not charged (by most) until you have recieved the item 😉

Yes, but most of the time you can contest anything bad with your CC, and they usually take your side.
If you got trolled, chances are its gone for good. Despite the best effort from the TrollHunters.com

I must admit, I only read about half of this thread, but here are the rules I follow

If I am Selling
If little or no heatware
-You pay first, no exceptions

If decent heatware or tons
-If paypaling, you pay first
-If MO/Check we X-ship

If I am Buying
If little or no heatware
-You ship first. If they refuse I move on. It is their sale they decide if they want follow through or not

If decent heatware or tons
-I paypal first
-If I am paying with Mo/Check we x-ship

Yeah but you can still be trolled if you send stuff before getting paid.

Chances of getting trolled by someone with 100+ heatware is considerably less than someone with 5 heatware. Hence the reason you have the eval system to begin with. If you're too chicken to take any chances, go get your stuff from BestBuy or convince some poor souls to trade on your term.

Your rant while understandable is completely unjustified. When you order online you do not ask them to give you the product first then you will send them the money, you pay up front and they give you the product, I would get their personal information and verify, and wouldn't do a deal on a large dollar item, but ranting about them not willing to ship first isn't the way to go about it IMO. Just move on to the next deal, I have shipped first in the past, but only to traders with 75+ heatware. Also that isn't "how this forum works" as you put it, an experienced trader has the option of asking a new trader to ship first, which the new trader may decline, that is within their rights, if you decide not to deal with them, that is fine, they just wait for the next person to come along. They shouldn't feel obligated to ship first...

I haven't noticed the problem, but I haven't been buying/selling much lately either. If someone isn't willing to ship first, I usually ask if they'll cross-ship.

Bottom line is that it is their stuff, and if you aren't willing to play by their rules, they have every right to wait for someone who will.

Ryan

I understand that, it just seems like they expect me to send them the money right away.

Whatever happened to respect? When I saw people with 100+ (probably 50+ when I first started) positive heatware I had the utmost respect for them and wouldn't even imagine asking for payment first. Back when AT switched to FuseTalk I would ship first to people who were Senior Members, no questions asked.
Wow, you really WERE new to trading it seems. Post count has not reflection on trading practices. Anyways it looks like he was affording you with much respect (although neither heatware nor postcount imply extra respect beyond what should be afforded to all people, which it appears you are not affording to these traders by attempting to dictate the way they will deal...)

likewise, and probably half my heat are from new heaters like myself. None had any problem paying first on sells, and to date, i've turned down only 3 because of unwillingness to pay first. Although today was my first 100+ person.

Yeah, I saw your heatware. I'd probably make you ship first or at least cross-ship (half payment now, half later) if you threw a huge fuss about it. You've been on AT long enough where it's obvious you didn't just come here to troll people. I'd probably stick to my guns and make you cross-ship or else the deal would be off.

Anyway, I just asked the n00b if he'd be happy with $10 now and $17 upon arrival, he said no. I then asked about half payment now/half upon arrival and he turned that down.

No way I'm going to deal with him now.
You continue to miss the point - You would not MAKE him do anything, you can only request, if he does not agree to the terms, there is no deal, no questions, no problems..

I've got a nice collection of Heatware evaluations going for me and I still ship first on occasion. I have over 200 transactions online (heatware reflects about half of them) and have been trolled once. So what did I do? Instead of bitching about it, I contacted the TrollHunters and local agencies in the town where the troll lived. Sure enough I got my products as previously promised, and he will have a tough time trading in the future since he made the bad traders list.

Granted, newbies should ship first. Always remember that the TrollHunters are here to help and that plenty of members are also willing to help out.

Now for a new rant: Your eBay references don't mean crap to me so don't try passing them as references on these boards.
You nailed it man!

i sure as heck would not ship first... the one and only online deal that i have done (summer 00, wow - its been that long?) invovled me getting the MO first, and then i shipped

Please all you guys who would never ship first and always make the other person ship first - answer the questions in the thread I made!

I would have put my questions here but I thought it would be easier in the new thread...

OMG! Sellers ship before payment? I've never done any trading here, so I don't know the "rules". This just strikes me as odd though.

I've never figured out the newbie-ships-first rule. That's so stupid. I mean... Except in the minds of the proud master traders,

who thinks a buyer should get to receive the item(s) before paying??? I only buy, never sell, stuff online/in forums, and I'll always expect to pay first. I wish I could tell newegg to ship my stuff to me first.

I tried to get my car dealer to bring my new car to my house and I'll mail them a check next week. They wouldn't do it for some reason. I next tried Dell computers, they told me I had to pay for the computer before they would even build it, let alone ship it! The nerve!

Odd.

I agree. Everytime I traded online I have paid first and I would like to be paid fully or partly before I ship something. What is so odd with this? I don't get i. And why should so called n0obs be treated different?
Buy stuff from eBay and you pay first.
Buy stuff from newegg and you pay first.
Buy stuff everywhere online and you pay first.
Soo... what is the problem here? Is there an elite heatware league out here who tries to discriminate ordinary people with less than 100+ feedbacks?
I call BS.

<----- No heatware whatsoever and would trade with an equal.
