What's the point of religion?

her209

No Lifer
Is it because we can't face our own mortality so we assure ourselves of a life after death?

And YES, I know good people who are atheist.

I believe there's life after death.. after you die, your body decay and your molecules become a part of something else.

so people like yourself have something to do. religion does not always have to include the belief of an after life, so i'm assuming you're targeting a particular religion? who says you have to fallow a religion to belive in an after life? wtf am i bothering responding to this...

Religion to me is a way for a group of people who believe in the same things to all get together talk about those things. There is a sense of support and comfort I think when you are with other people who all believe in the same thing. Personally I don't go to church or share in any particular religion, although I was raised in one, I have my spirituality and it's between me and God on how I choose to use it! (Holy run on sentence!)🙂

I'm not targeting any specific religion. Are you saying that most religions don't promise life after death (as an incentive)?

No I am not saying that most religions don't promise life after death.

I consider the concept of life after death to be more of a threat than a promise. If you don't believe in life after death, then there is no reason to fear death or be apprehensive about dieing. If you do believe in life after death, then you have to worry all your life about what kind of life you are going to have after you die.

Simple.

Do you really believe that, or are ya looking for a huge thread?

It can be seen two ways. Its good that it keeps people doing something bad. But it is also used to control people's actions which a lot of times is not in the best interest of the person.

this question is too ambiguous. You need to be more specific

who said atheists were bad? They just don't believe in any kind of God, that's all. I don't recall seeing anybody proves that believing in some super power makes you good. A lot of serial killers are also Christian, but those are individuals, they can't represent that religion community

The question is in regard to a promise of life after death... do we believe in it because we don't want to face the fact that our body (and possibly, our soul) will be gone forever once we die.

It has been speculated that religion was invented to control people. If this is true it can be a bad thing, but is it necessarily a bad thing?

Figures a troll would make a flame bait thread.
