Lets face realities, a very large percentage of the members of this forum view and participate on these forums from places such as work and school.

Cut those out and you have very little activity on this site and it'd just be some other lame ass site out there.

People come here because it's basically safe to view while at places such as work and school while still being entertaining enough to keep them around.

IMO of course.

Posting at work makes much more sense than posting instead of going out after work.

NSFW also translates into 'NSWSOIITR', aka 'Not Safe While Significant Other Is In The Room' (or one's young kids for that matter.)

Because "NSFW" is easier to type than "rudeguy?" :p

I for one see (and appreciate) the courtesy aspect of the NSFW warnings, even though I don't post from work...I know other people do...although why it's tolerated by their management I don't understand. GET TO WORK!

However, I also agree to a point with baked...you SHOULDN'T be surfing on the company's time...and if you click a link that you shouldn't...so be it.

(I also understand that often, links don't end up being what they're purported to be...and thus, the NSFW tag is appropriate...and should be enforced.)

GET BACK TO WORK YOU LAZY FUCKS...AND STAY OFF MY LAWN!

Pictures, I get. Bitching about a Youtube link being NSFW, I will never get. I have access to about 15 different sites at work (all work-related, all boring) and there are some people out there bitching about being Rick Rolled while at work? Fuck you!

Face it, Leroy, you should never, ever procreate, because any carbon-based units you spawn will, by definition, be half-Baked.

True. However the disclaimer also applies to any situation where you might be potentially embarrassed by said content. Examples include school computers, libraries, Internet cafes, etc etc... Your job isn't in jeopardy in these cases but you still might want the warning.

Here's a pro tip: don't browse internet forums like this one when you're on a school computer, in a library or in an internet cafe.

"Forums like this one"? This isn't 4chan you know. There actually are intelligent discussions that occur here. If this were something like /b/ then I could understand the lack of a need for NSFW markers, but the fact here is that the vast majority of links are safe for viewing on a public computer and this alone means that it is only common courtesy to point out the rare NSFW links when they do occur.

Being that I work in a break-fix/support position it's a given that there are downtimes. Casual internet browsing is accepted and allowed during these times so long as it isn't abused. However there are content filters and obscene content policies that we must follow.

A simple web forum like this is fine. Browsing the Hooters/Maxim annual calendar contestant sites is not. A simple NSFW tag helps avoid links that would leave little nastygram messages on the web filter logs.

This is a tech forum. I'm certain that there are many others in similar jobs.

Seriously, whoever came up with the NSFW tag should be shot. There's no reason I have to tell you what you're allowed to look at during your work hours. In fact, if you got reprimanded or fired, it's nobody's fault but your own. Learn some person fucking responsibility. That is all.

It's you're freaking personal responsibility to not post not safe for work links without a NSFW tag.

This, when I worked in phone tech support, we were allowed to browse to our hearts content. You can surf without it affecting you telling BoomerD to unplug his modem and that the monitor is not his computer ad naseum for an hour. If your stats were up you could even bring your laptop in and watch movies etc.

At this job we're not supposed to be on, but lunch time is still fair game - but not for NSFW browsing.

Yah, though like at work you do things enough times it becomes an implied responsibility.

1 part courtesy 3 parts common sense.
