 to OP, who is below me.

But that's just the thing. Not all message boards have the same content/culture. I'd never go to Something Aweful or 4channel or the like at work. Here, though, it's pretty well assumed that a lot of us are work surfers due to our similar professions and the content of this forum is much different.

If something is outside of the normal rules, labeling it as such is a professional courtesy.

If your stats were up you could even bring your laptop in and watch movies etc.

At this job we're not supposed to be on, but lunch time is still fair game - but not for NSFW browsing.

HEY...WTF do you mean by that? The picture tv thingie IS my computer...the big noisy box that sits on the floor...the thing with all the fans...that's just the power source thingie...right?
I mean...like all the computing power is in the CRT monitor...isn't that what CRT means? Computer's Really There?

Smart-ass little bastard...that does it. I'm turning on my sprinklers the next time I catch you on my lawn. :p

Are you serious? What OT have you been going to? This is the place that taught me about the nastiest things on the net.

You have been coming around here long enough to know that OT is PRETTY MUCH work-safe. But not all of it...not every post in every thread could be.

My internet use is monitored at work so I don't browse OT at work. Somehow I still manage to cope. Its the roughest 8 hours of my day when I can't read about someone's UPS driver being late or someone asking for help on their 3rd grade math homework.

Admittedly....I have very little common sense, but I do have enough of it not to risk my job by going to a place on the net where other people's actions could harm me.

Face it, Leroy, you should never, ever procreate, because any carbon-based units you spawn will, by definition, be half-Baked.

How about you go bother Nik some more?

*takes a breath*

I got fired from an engineering company for that. Nice accounting position @ 50k a yr. (I have a better job now so its all good) I don't even recall the thread, and porn was not allowed at the forum. Some dip shit posted a link in the thread and says it is something else. Me, being a fucktard (I can look back now) I click it. Brings me to some piercing shit site. I get fired the next day from the no tolerance policy. It was nice. I agree it was my fault, but when your on a forum that porn is not allowed (as to y there during the day at work) and have never exp. that there before...it kinda blows. :D

Haha owned.

if you get caught browsing this place at work and get fired it's your own fault

work is for WORKING not wasting your boss' money browsing tech forums

I'm sure there is always work to be done even during downtime

if you are the boss, like me, then you could care less about nsfw tags.

So, am I wasting my boss's money when I browse ATOT during my lunch break? No, they don't pay me during lunch. And our company policy allows surfing the internet during breaks, so it's not an issue of using company property for leisure. However, if I click on a link that I think is safe and is not, then I could get fired for it.

And anyways, every point on this thread is moot other than dullard's, because every forum member agreed to not post anything "vulgar...obscene, profane, sexually oriented," etc. So, in a way the OP is right: there should not be a NSFW tag, because nothing NSFW should be posted on these forums.

dullard has it exactly correct. This is a worksafe forum by definition. If you post material that is obscene, profane, sexually oriented, vulgar or anything else, you will be vacationed. If you post it with a NSFW tag, the moderators will have a tendency to go lighter with only a warning, or just ignoring it completely in the social sub-forums. It is not a full 'get out of jail free' card (some things can NEVER be posted), but we will take that NSFW tag into account when we decide on a punishment.

If you want a forum where you can post whatever crap you want, go to 4chan. This is not /b/. This is a forum for working professionals not the dregs of the internet. YOU need to take personal responsibility for the links you post, and YOU need to follow the rules you agreed to when you signed up.

So who's your boss so we can turn you in for doing the very thing you are soap boxing against. Stop being a hypocrite and practice what you preach, shithead. How do you expect your employees to respect you if you are a typical management hypocrite? Even if you're the CEO of the company, lead by example or else you are just as bad as those you're railing against for wasting the boss' money.

The NSFW tag is just a warning that what you are about to see when you either open the thread or click on the link in the post could be profane or offensive. Don't focus so much on the fact that it means "Not Safe for Work." Just focus on the fact that it is a polite warning to people who may have reservations about being assaulted with profane material without warning. . .It's the same reason they put ratings on movies and video games, so you know what you're in for BEFORE you buy that ticket. OP is a douche with no basic understanding of common courtesy. It's just basic social responsibility.

Basically the tag is created for those threads like "oh man, this is great check this out LINK" not for threads that start with "oh man, check out this hot chick wearing a bikini LINK"

* furiously clicks LINK text *

Look at the flipside of the equation. If you were surfing porn, clicked on a link without an NSFS tag, and an ATOT thread popped up, wouldn't you be pissed?

you serious or trolling?

There are a lot of 'bosses' making well in to the six figure range that can still be terminated for viewing certain sites at work.

If you are the head honcho at the kwikee mart then you are probably safe...you also are probably safe sticking in any of their $2 DVD's.

When you get to be the CEO of any company that's publicly traded shoot me an email back if you think viewing child porn in your office won't upset the board member and stock holders.

Wow and you got almost 17k posts just from posting from home?

Either way, the forums are by default NSFW. If you don't like it, go build your own theme park (with blackjack! and hookers!)

Baked seems like a very angry individual. Every post he makes is negative, and it seems like hes in every thread on AT. Personal courtesy....nah, not here.

NSFW isn't about being fired from work. It's called common fucking sense, how about you get some Baked. I hear people saying that the readers should read the URL and other people's comments and make estimated guesses. But unless the URL is clear, then at least someone has to do your job for you by clicking the link and providing a description, something you are bitching about doing in the first place.

Technically, if NSFW wasn't a forum policy, I could say "Check out this news article" and then relink you to goatse. I'm sure you wouldn't appreciate that. Especially when it starts happening 12 times a day.

And the person who compared this to IRC? Get serious, my god. No link in IRC is safe. However, this isn't IRC.

For what it's worth, I very rarely click links from this forum, even when they don't have NSFW. However, I still think posters should have enough common sense to label a link that is inappropriate for a good number of situations on a semi-intelligent forum.
