This. If something has a NSFW tag, that means it gets an instant click from me. Even if I'm at work. LOL!

True. However the disclaimer also applies to any situation where you might be potentially embarrassed by said content. Examples include school computers, libraries, Internet cafes, etc etc... Your job isn't in jeopardy in these cases but you still might want the warning.

Here's a pro tip: don't browse internet forums like this one when you're on a school computer, in a library or in an internet cafe.

Oh, geez, just STFU and deal with being courteous, it doesn't hurt you. Other people surf forums like this at home with their kids around, too. If it bothers you that much, why don't you go to a forum that lets people post whatever garbage they like inline, unfiltered.

Maybe you should spend more time with you kid instead of clicking on links in message boards? I still don't see why posters should be responsible for other people's surroundings. Gross stuff should be expected on the internet. The guy clicking on links on a board with a kid in the room has no right to get upset when one of those pics is a woman pooping vomit on her face. He should know it comes with the territory. If browsing forums is so imporant, do it when you're alone and in a setting in which you won't find it upsetting.

In that case why do forums and other sites even bother with legal terms and moderation at all? Yes those things are part and parcel of the Internet culture and sometimes you do stumbleupon them. But to say that you should expect them to be behind any potential link is just stupid. Forums like Anandtech and may others are very self consciously moderated to protect a certain sense of style / formality. You agree to the terms when you sign up that you wont post such shit.

I can do this easily, mostly because of NSFW tags.

Seriously, whoever came up with the NSFW tag should be shot. There's no reason I have to tell you what you're allowed to look at during your work hours. In fact, if you got reprimanded or fired, it's nobody's fault but your own. Learn some person fucking responsibility. That is all.

In other words, you're envious that some people have jobs that allow them to surf aimlessly on the internet and get paid for it, as long as they're not visiting sites that put the company in an actionable position under sexual harassment policies?

:p

For the most part you are correct however there is occasionally a thread that has very little information but a link. After clicking on that link you've found out that you're about to be fired because it contains information that is completely not safe for work.

Basically the tag is created for those threads like "oh man, this is great check this out LINK" not for threads that start with "oh man, check out this hot chick wearing a bikini LINK"

Someone needs to make a SFW Video of High Production Value, but Low Volume....at least at first. Intrigued, the Viewer cranks the Volume, a minute or so into it, suddenly the Volume on the Vid gets cranked and a clear "I'm not Working!" comes blaring out.

If people never posted NSFW here, I wouldn't come to the forums anymore.

I'm probably not alone, so that's why they enforce it, I'm sure.

Courtesy? How about using some common sense. If you're not sure about what you'll click on at a forum while you're at work, read the damn thread before you click.

For those of you who are saying I'm QQing, wrong. I really don't care about what you do at work or how much you get paid doing what you do, that's not my business. I just sick of seeing people blaming others for personal mistakes they made. Nobody forced you to click on some clink on an internet forum at work. The only person that can get you in trouble is yourself. But seeing how this is America, most people grew up with the "it's never my fault" mentality.

You can't always tell what the link goes to by looking at the URL, and the thread content is no guarantee what the link will go to.

If you are really upset that people want to blame someone if they click a link that would get them in trouble at work, then shouldn't you be in FAVOR of people labeling links NSFW?

If you are surfing the web for pleasure at work you deserve to get fired anyway, there are plenty of people who are looking for jobs and won't do it. I agree with the OP.

I agree with OP that it's ultimately each person's responsibility for what s/he clicks on while surfing from work.

But...

If you post something that is obviously NSFW and you don't label it as such, you're still a douche. I label NSFW for others because I hope that others would do the same for me.

And for what it's worth, I don't work in an office. I work in the field, so I'm not behind the company monitors and filters, except for the 5% of the time I'm VPN'd. I'd still label NFSW, because I'm not a douchebag.
