Seriously, what's the point in putting so much money into front wheel drive cars? Who cares if it does ~350hp? It's front wheel drive! Wouldn't it be more logical to go find some older nissan,bmw or what not?

In the real world of racing at stoplights or on highways, people don't rev up to 4k and dump the clutch so traction isn't as limiting as it is at the drag strip. A 350 horse front driver (you must talking about srt4's right?) might be hard to launch but from 20 - 30 mph on up, it will fly.
I'm considering the comptech supercharger for my 04 tsx. It ups hp/tq to ~250/200 which isn't enough to overwhelm the chassis but will make my car tangibly faster.

What's the point of modding any car? To make it faster. Not everyone races from every stop. You can race from highways and many other speeds. Why hate on it? Let them be. FWD's on this forum is like an auto on a performance car. Just let it die already.

It always pissed me off when I see some idiot modding the h@ll out of his Civic / Accord putting in the process over $8-9K. If you are modding an older car, why the F not go and buy a used M3.
An E36 M3 is a proven RWD car, it can kick butt, comes stock with a 240HP in-line 6 cylinder engine stock, can be found for a bit over $10K, slap a proper Turbo on it and then you are way into the 300HP area....
with 0-60 times < 6 seconds...
Now don't take me wrong, I drive a Honda, but if I would ever decide I want to get into the serious performance area, I know the first step that I would be taking is looking at another car, a proper RWD European car that is, not some FWD Honda or Toyota that was designed for driving back and forth from work . school..... etc

Why would it piss you off what someone else does to their car? It's their car let them be. I'm sure an E36 M3 is the best car ever to mod so why doesnt everyone do it? When you can get a beat up civic for a couple grand and put a couple more into it and make it fast.......So I guess you think im stupid cus I mod my srt-4 since it's fwd.

Well not really pissing me off, but just the kids I see around here pouring thousands and thousands into that beat up civic or accord they have while they could have bypassed the tunning and the time and the effort and gotten some RWD car that was meant to be driven by racing enthusiasts not moms, and still on top of that they think their cars are teh sht
And on an additional note, an SRT is not really that comparable to some usual old civic

I drive an 03 Cobra but I still intend on beefing up my 95 Camry with a 400 HP 3SGTE+E153 one of these days just for giggles when I have money burning a hole in my pocket and space to spare for a side project.
Why? Because it was the slow car that everyone liked to pick on and it would just be hilarious retribution for that poor car that's done nothing but serve me well.
exercise in wire harness splicing and some misc bolt ons and tuning = 0$
used tranny = $400
used engine = $900
smoking the tires off the line in a 95 Camry while listening to the BOV go apeshit when you bounce off the limiter 2 seconds after leaving the light = priceless.
As far as Civics? I can't stand rice any more than the next guy, but I can admire the simplicity of a well built clean EG6 with a B18C and S200.

I really don't understand what your goals are other than talking about how fast your cars are and spouting out every car/make/model acronym in the auto world.Just my observations over and over again.

so i have a 200sx SE-R FWD. pushing something near 300whp whats wrong with that.... i went complete sleeper look. i put a larger turbo on my 2.0L (t3/t4) and well i driving around the city under 3k rpm and its just a regular car N/A and when i get on it that car freaking flies on the highway. Why i modd it ? because i like knowing i can have power any time i want to, i like to tweak things. I've beat plenty of near stock evo's and STi's on the highway but thats mainly because i might be a better driver, my car is lighter and i'm on FWD VS AWD at 60 mph rolls i kinda have a nice edge over them. I dont see a point worrying too much about 0-60 times as that is city limits and i dont push it in the city too much. I like my car a lot and that is why i do it.

for the camry guy, just built a 5sgte, use the 2.2 block from the 5sfe if its still in good condtion and put on the head, manifolds of the 3sgte, i wouldn't say 400hp but maybe 250 WHP after you get a couple of supporting mods. the 3sgte stock has like 160-170whp if that much. uping the boost and a bolt ons can bring you too 200-225whp range.

Very good point. Seriously, we're not all trying to be leet bad boy racers with a gangster lean. I got the same flack when i posted pics of my civic with it's new set of wheels on these boards...I never made a car thread again due to the ignorance displayed.

Have a look on the internet for Teamswift.net... this is a community dedicated to modifying the Suzuki Swift family (This includes Chevy Sprints, Pontiac Fireflies, and... wait for it... Geo Metros!!)
I love my Metro and enjoy tinkering with it. Lots of people dog on it, but it is so light that any little mod has a very noticeable increase on the SOTP dyno. I'm pushing a whopping 55hp (maybe a few more with the minor mods I've done) and have beaten many cars off the line including a Ford Festiva and an M3 (I don't think the driver new we were racing though...).
If I had 10 grand to drop on a car I just might go ahead and do that, but since I don't I work with what I've got and what I like. Take a look at how much you can buy an older Civic for, then jump on ebay and see how cheap their after market parts are. Most people start off with whatever car they have, then mod it, mod it some more, decide that they want a little more power and mod it some more... by this point they already have a pretty hefty investment into the car (mods don't really do much to the resale of a car) and when they decide they want more power they are considering an extra 5k for an M3 or 1k for a turbo... I'll take the turbo thank you very much.
On top of all of this, some people just like different things than others. "Different strokes for different folks." Right?
I could easily ask the same thing about SUVs... Why do people drop thousands of dollars into something that is neither Sporty (Can't beat a sports car) nor Utilitarian (Can't haul like a truck)?

If you want a high-performance car it's more practical to buy one that's made for that kind of stuff or has the ability. If you want a car that gives you luxury, status or whatever that's what you buy.
It's un-practical and doesn't make any sense to me. I didn't mean to hate on it but just to try and understand it.

I like RWD a lot myself, but the FWD platform has many pros going for it. Also, what's the point of me wasting electricity to run my overclocked PIII when there are so many chips that can do it better? Oh right, because it is a free country and I can do whatever non-infringing thing I feel like.

With me it was more of a easier thing. I bought a bought a car with a very popular engine. SR20DE, it cost me very little to pretty much double my total HP. I just needed manifold and turbo and pipes really. with minor stuff. I've seen people spend $800-1000 on used JDM car parts and parts off S13/s14/s15 which are RWD and piece together a moderate boosted car in the 250hp range.
Reason why i did mines was sleeper, cheaper to mod as overall it cost me very little to do everything and have a 13second car and frankly i stoped because the money it would cost to get from 13 to 10-11 will end up costing me a price of a nicer/ newer car plus i will never need it.
a RWD and FWD doesn't make a diffrent. yea RWD is SLIGHTLY easier and doesn't have too much problems with traction but traction issue is just off the line. if racing from a Roll, its cake.
