What's the point of making your bed?

This question came to mind since I'm heading to bed soon. I don't really see a point it. Since I use my bed nightly it's going to get messed up every night, so why bother making it? Pretty much only I see my bedroom so it's not like I have to make it presentable for someone else. Some of my friends see my room when they want to use my computer, but they don't care as to the neatness of my bed, and I don't see why friends would/should care at all whether your bed is made. I can see the point if you're bringing someone home, but then isn't that your desired destination, and isn't it going to be messed up soon anyways ;)? I asked my roommate why he made his bed, and he couldn't come up with a good reason besides force of habit since his parents made him do it when he was young. So, is there a valid reason to make your bed, or is it just a chore parents came up with? Hopefully someone will care to shed some light on the subject so I can have something to read over breakfast :)

goodnight ATOT.

I never make my bed unless someone I care about (read: with a vagina) is coming over.

I don't really "make" my bed everyday, but I tuck my sheets and covers under the mattress so they don't get to dishelved.

So that it does not perpetuate into a pile of filth.

I NEVER spring clean. That is stupid. I KEEP THINGS CLEAN ALL OF THE TIME. Effeciency is the key.

I'm a mix. I don't mind a small mess, but after ~2wks, I'll get sick of it and clean the whole place. I can't abide dirt though.

Remember, Messy != dirty.

Making your bed was invented by some bored mom who was tired of yelling at her kids for the same old stuff.

There is only one reason:

So that WHEN/IF you had a girl over, she doesn't think you're a complete slob. You have to continue this tradition until she begins making it for you every morning.

The only time I make my bed is when I have friends coming over for the first time to see my apt. Otherwise I'm in the "what's the point?" school of thought.

i dust everyday, vacum every other day too. i'm a huge neat freak. my bed stays made the second i get out of it. i hate wanting to lay on my bed when it's not made, i have like 8 pillows so if they are all over the bed it annoys the piss out of me.

It keeps the dust off of your pillows, sheets, blankets, and the side of your comforter that touches you, so that when you sleep you're not inhaling dust...

It's nice to come home to a clean house and a clean made bed.

I don't make our bed every day though and my wife almost never does. I'd say I do it 3 times as much as she does.

I throw the covers back thats about it. The only time I make the bed is just after changing the sheets or if I have someone coming over.
