I don't think I know any rich people at all, or if I do I have no idea they're rich :/ I think I'm actually the richest person I know, and I don't really know how to fully properly estimate my net worth (which would kind of put me in a much worse place to estimate anyone else's)

Pretty simple, all your assets (house worth, money in bank, money elsewhere, other valued things you own - car, ring, etc) and just subtract all your debts from that (mortgage, credit card debt, student loans, etc).

Well yeah, that part is simple. But the tricky part here is I'm only paying quarterly estimates safe harbor on taxes and will probably owe quite a bit April 2015. So I'd consider that a substantial amount of debt vs how much I currently have, I just don't know exactly what and it'd be a pain to come up with better estimates for my tax liability 😛

You forgot the rental income.:colbert:

I know several billionaires that I used to work for and report directly to (startup founders), but the highest net worth of somebody I hang out with on a weekly basis is probably ~40 million?

The wealthiest person I know is my boss, and his net worth is close to $10 billions.

I would say it may be George Kaiser, but he is worth a little over $10 billion. He is in gas/oil and that kind of stuff.

You have at the 9.8 to 9.5 billion ranks

Edward Johnson III
Tsai Eng-Meng
Jack Ma
Vladamir Yevtushenkov
Giorgio Armani
Miuccia Prada

SoCal is littered with millionaires, but that aint what it used to be, its in many cases the house and retirement and not a lot of spare cash or trips to Tonga.

500m +, hes someplace inbetween 500-1 bill, really nice guy, never actually asked him it would be rude. but i do know he sold one of the companys he owned for ~650 mill a few years ago and has invested it and such, he also still works and has a lot of other assets, property and such.

He recently sold off most of his horses (like 40) he used to play a lot of polo,

he currently lives and works in a town of 6000 people in bumblefuck western NY and you would have no idea he was super rich.

not joking

I know someone who makes over $200k a year. It kinda sucks because he has TWO jobs, but at least he "works from home". He also makes a little extra renting out his moms DVD collection.

He's pretty rich, IMO.

Owner's of the company I work for, prolly $150-$250 each million (4 co-founder's). Really down to earth people that will sit and eat lunch with common folks like us.
