We actually have a record board at my work of highest viruses and spyware.

current record holders are:

Spyware 22,000+

Viruses 24,000+

These records were from another tech at work, and i don't think i'll ever be able to top
them!
Needless to say, those computers he found that much on needed to be formatted!

Damn, I thought the one I worked on recently was bad. Adaware and Spybot S&D found over 300 items, also 28 viruses, 23 trojans...

Yeesh. If you're getting that much spyware you need to be installing Spybot S&D with the real-time and immunize features (but not TeaTimer), Spyware Blaster and Spyware Guard.

I run those three, and run scans with Ad-Aware and Spybot weekly. I have my browser (Firefox) set to only accept cookies from the originating web site. Over the last 6 months, I have not gotten so much as a cookie detected by either Spybot or Ad-Aware, except for the day I installed Firefox 0.9.1 and hadn't set it to deny third party cookies.

2700 the first run, then there was 300 that were only in each users profile in XP, and there was six users.

I've nocticed spywareblaster DOES keep the amount of spyware down to a minimum. More so that Spybot's immunize.

I fixed my uncle/aunt's computer last year. Between Spybot and Ad-aware, they had nearly 1,000 hits. I also had to run both programs like four times, and each time new things with higher threat ratings were uncovered.

I also found out where all these problems came from. My 14 year old cousin told me, "You know I found this thing on the 'net, and I didn't know what it was, so I installed it! Is that cool or what?!" No... not cool. I nearly choked. I told him to never do that again, but I suspect I'll be reinstalling Windows on that computer again soon. Good thing my uncle has a real nice administrative job for the New York state government, so he can afford his son's TDTO habits.

476 with Adaware a PC in the Office 24/7 on the Web no firewall at all and some 15 different users on it.
Nothing is working as ist should be, and I don't wonder why;)
