"Running with Scissors" by Augesten Bourroughs. Its hilarious but really fxcked up autobiography. I think they are making it into a movie now too

I don't know.. maybe "The Bell Jar."

I've read it, very good book. How is it messed up?

Messed up in the sense that it's a very realistic connection to that state of mind, lapsing into a mental breakdown, etc.

Most of Kafka's writing, most obviously Metamorphosis
Heartsnatcher by Boris Vian
The Slynx by Tatyana Tolstaya
Lullaby by Chuck Palahniuk was pretty interesting, although I find that he is only capable of writing minor variations of the same story.

Wild Sheep Chase by Haruki Murakami

Then you should read Norwegian Wood, or Kafka on the Shore, they are way more messed up that this

I've read NW. Its one of my favorite books. Its not messed up. I have Kafka on the Shore on my desk and need to get to it when I have some time. WSC is messed up. Do you remember the scene where the Mongolian guy skins the Japanese soldier alive? That's messed up.

Heinlein's I Will Fear No Evil
Catch 22 is an awesome read, hilarious highs and horrible lows.
"Where have all the Snowdens of yesteryear gone?"

Some good ones:

Number of The Beast, by Robert A. Heinlein

The Jesus Incident, by Frank Herbert and Bill Ransom

The Lazarus Effect, by Frank Herbert and Bill Ransom

I listed those because you wanted something "messed up". But if you want read something less messed up that's really good, also look into "Earth" by David Brin, "Sphere" by Michael Crichton, and the Red Mars trilogy by Kim Stanley Robinson.

Probably The Stand - the idea of most people on earth being dead is so shocking and wonderful... I mean, horrible, that the book really sticks out in my mind.

Number of The Beast, by Robert A. Heinlein

One of my top ten all time favorite books. I've read that one at least 5 times.

I'll have to reread it once I finish the complete set of Hitchhiker's Guid to the Galaxy. The first time I read it was in high school (10th or 11th), and I got really lost in the last few chapters because Heinlein started referencing stuff I didn't understand, like other books and such.
