i am happy and proud to say that i have no credit cards, have had none in years, and do not plan on having one any time soon. if you cant afford to buy something then you shouldnt be buying it.

These days it's not always about buying things you can't afford. A CC gives rewards, allows for convenience and is the best way to buy things online.

most people are paying for those 'rewards' and my debit card is as convenient and as easy to use online as any credit card

I have a $13.5k one but I just got my Citi Dividend card which I'll be using exclusively from now on because of better rewards... starts at $6800.

Too bad it's a bad thing to start cancelling even unused credit cards (confirm?)...

umm.. citi dividens, 5% back on gas. paid off in fully montly. the only thing I'd be paying would possibly be taxes on the $300 max you can earn.

credit worthiness, as already pointed out, is also a good thing to build. Gotta start somewhere.

It's also not as dangerous as carrying $500 around on you for emergencies.

It also protects you if you are robbed... you simply call your credit card company and cancel the card and let them know it was stolen and you're not responsible for any charges made. If you have cash stolen from you... you're SOL.

*EDIT* A debit card may do the exact same thing... but hey, it's all about responsibility... if you can't control yourself with a credit card you shouldn't have one. They do come in handy sometimes if you're caught between a rock and a hard place. Especially when companies practically beg to give you a card with 0% APR.

Fine but how do you buy on line?
