What's the likelihood of the US being invaded or turned against?

I respectfully disagree with 308nato, I think we should lie on the floor of the UN Security Council & publically pizz our pants & allow another terrorist attack to prove how tolerant we are...

Maybe the baztards will take out something on the West Coast this time & the left coast will actually realize what happened on 9-11, one hell of a lot of people died.

Maybe OJ can look for the real terrorists for the FBI/NSA/CIA/Special Ops folks.

True, but irrelevent. The point is not the good we have done, but rather a perpetual guarantee of existance. Who was more cocky than the Romans? They were THE power of the day. They believed it was their destiny to endure forever. I now see them making Fiats.

I will agree to disagree. The comparison to Rome is inappropriate in more ways than appropriate. We have always tempered our inherent cowboy cockiness with compassion. We swing to far one way or the other on occasion but I feel overall we have tried to keep a balance.

There has never been a nation in history with the power we have remotely come close to our attempt at being fair about it.

I don't ever remember thinking America had a guarantee of existence; or being taught that for that matter. I grew up with the understanding that we would remain a great nation as long as we never left the path we were originally set upon.

My mom used to laugh when I told her "but everyone else is doing it like that". "That doesn't make it the right way" was always her answer.

Making Fiat's is something I guess. As long as they don't make one for me.

Most of these civilizations fell due to internal influences. Other countries just came in and picked over their bones.
That's about the smelliest peice of crap I've ever read Do you actually think that a country would last longer if it's people didn't think that it would endure?

I see that post count does not equal understanding. Let me dumb it down for you. When a significant portion of a population believes itself to be privileged and protected, that they are inherently superior morally, that they cannot be beaten, then that country is in trouble. If people were concerned with their actions, their place in the world and how it influences other, and in general thought before they acted without getting cocky, then yes I would say they would have a chance of survival as a society for a longer time.
If this country had not had a cocky attitude from the beginning we wouldn't have made it this far. There are a fair amount of people and countries around the globe that wouldn't still exist if we did not have the "Can Do" frame of mind we do. Neutering the way we are will not extend our existence.

I have to agree with you on that statement, one of the most common things about world powers is that they tend to believe they can't be toppled.

Take Bablyon for example, they were the true definition of juggernaut. They kicked so much ass back in the day other nations would piss themselves if there was a RUMOUR that Bablyon might attack. After awhile they got really lax, in fact the reason they lost their world power status was because some idiot did'nt lock the gates of the capital city because they were all to busy drinking and partying.

Then there was Egypt, they were the leaders in technology, science, food production and military research. They managed to extend their influence across half the globe and they eventually got lax as well and where are they now?

It just history, world powers typically don't last.

Who would invade USA? Mexico? Canada?!?!?!?

Canada will join the Rebel Alliance against the evil empire. Seriously though, if the US acts alone, it is going to increase "anti-Americanism" throught Europe, a sense of Islamic solidarity throught the Muslim world, and may gain extra support from the People's Republic (not that the PRC has good relations with the Muslim world themselves). As time goes on, and the economic development of China continues, this could eventually create a force powerful enough to accomplish such an invasion. But if it ever reached such a point, we'd probably end up being fried anyway.

Also it does'nt help matters any that terrorism is becoming increasingly more sophisticated and there are a lot of enemies of the US who have a hard-on about destroying the country.

The middle east hates us, France hates us and lets not even talk about China. As with any world power in previous centuries, the balance always shifts. What would happen to the US when they no longer hold the power that they currently have?

It's going to happen, but...

all of us will be long dead before that happenes!

Exactly! I am not too worried about the US collapsing since it will probably happen long after I am gone. Really it seems like the relative strength of the US is greater now than it has ever been, since we are the only true superpower left.

No offense meant, but Iceland was never high on the list of priorities for any of the parties seeking domination at one time or another.

However, they would have gotten around to it eventually. But, in all your peaceful love, I am sure that the Nazi's or the Kaiser or Stalin would have passed you by because they enjoy a good chorus of Kum Bay Yah as much as anyone.

And you should thank the french that you aren't a brit...

We have. They're not german, are they? 😉

so can we please stop hearing how you saved our collective asses every time someone opposes something your government wants to do?

The only way there would be a successful invasion is if Mexico and Canada are allied with the would-be invaders. In that case, troops would be able to deploy and attack from both borders. At the same time, other countries that have massive Naval Armadas would have to attack from the East and West, through the Gulf of Mexico, up the Mississippi, etc.

The invaders would have to attack from all directions at the same time in order to be effective.

According to an article I read a while back, there was a reason why the Japanese bombed Pearl Harbor and didn't attempt a ground assault. Supposedly, high-ranking military personnel from Japan claimed that they didn't attack the mainland due to the citizens possessing guns. That is another reason why the US will not be invaded anytime soon. Potential invaders will not only fight our military, but they will also have to fight heavily armed civilians in America.

I am really tired of hearing your America bashing day after day after day after day, that's all you post about, what's the matter, you can dish it out pretty good but you are having a hard time taking it ?

You know what i am tired of? Being called an america hater and hussein supporter because i refuse to say that i support a war against Irak without full support from the UN...

What is this america bashing i hear of? is that when you are not all for a war or in the slightest way disagrees with what your government want's to do?

At the same time people joke about the pacifist iceland, the coward french, the weasel germany, Canada and their lousy army (the tank)... and then you act all surprised when someone says that you are arrogant?

He's just saying that compared to the Bruto Nationaal Product (dutch GNP), they give more to charity than the US. I'd like to see some evidence before I believe that.

No, i was comparing the Brutto National Produkt (Swedish GNP).... 😉

I will dig up some evidence for you...

They make $5 a year and donate a dollar so they give %20. We only donate hundreds of miilions and make billions therefore we aren't as compassionate as them.

And as you don't pay as much taxes as Bill G does you are not supporting your country... ?

You give what you can give, that is why the percentage is more important than the sum...

Actually, if the US goes to war without support from the UN, it sends a very dangerous signal, after that you can go to war based without conscent of the UN, if the US can do it, what's stopping china? and you do not need evidence, you can go to war based on a hunch...

It creates a very dangerous situation which is part of why i'm against the US doing it alone...

You can't mass troops at our boards or in the oceans and try to invade because they would be nuked. when other empires failed they didn't have a weapon that could take out the rest of the world. The only thing that could take down the US. IS if it colispid from with in.

Some of the civilans I know are better armed than the military. I do not know of that article was true or not, but that is damn funny when you think about it.

Since I live in Alaska, I will just drive down to the border and step across with my a .22 rifle and take over your country. VICTORY!

What if the "invaders" are US citizens within the US using gorilla (ie: terrorist) tatics?
