What's the legit scariest movie you've ever seen?

I don't know that I have one scariest movie, but some recent favorites include The Descent (this also happens to be a movie women like because the whole cast is female), Insidious, [REC], and 28 Days Later/28 Weeks Later. I found the Paranormal Activity movies very scary as well but some people find them too deliberately paced.

The Descent or Paranormal Activity would be my recommendation, although I didn't find either that scary. I think they'd be the most likely to be able to really scare her, especially if she's claustrophobic or believes in supernatural stuff.

Paranormal Activity is a good thrill ride. If you don't want to deal with a lot of violence and gore it's a good bet.

For me the truly scary movies would be ones where no special make-up or special effect is involved. Something that can "possibly happen" in real life. There's 2 sliding door mirrors for the closet in my room. If I watched paranormal activity, I would not be able to sleep at night.

Perhaps not scary but twisted would be funny games. 😵

It's funny (no pun intended), I like all kinds of disturbing/scary films but I found Funny Games just repugnant. It wasn't scary as much as it was psychological torture porn. I know people whose opinion I respect who enjoyed it, but I really hated that movie.

depends on how you define scary.

I prefer psychological horror movies.

in that vein, I would recommend (in no particular order):

The Innocents - a particularly disturbing movie
The Changeling - 1980 - a creepy ghost story
Legend of Hell House - creepy and atmospheric haunted house story.

Not the scariest I have seen (that would be The Exorcist) but if you want to scare her: The Entity.

Yep, agreed. Special affects and make-up don't bother me, I watched Paranormal Activity 6 months or so ago and I still get freaked out by random noises I hear.

that makes sense. My GF really liked Descent, and she hates scary/monsters--basically "super fake fiction."

For me--it was either Jakob's Ladder (more of a mind fuck; but it was a long time ago, so I don't know) or The Shining.

anything released in the last 2 decades or so is not scary--just stupid.
