Actually, driving a fast car really fast can be absolutely terrifying..... depending on the car. Back when I used to race, I got to drive quite a few tuned "supercars" around race tracks... and while it was a hoot.... some were VERY VERY twitchy at the limit. I drove one of Mallett's Corvettes (at the time, a supercharged 427c.i.), and while impressively fast, it went from "completely unflappable" to "damn near out-of-control" in no time. So "riding the line" was a mixture of "this is amazing" and "I'm gonna die!". Of course, not all cars are as twitchy as that one.... a mildly tuned M5 that I drove around the track was a real treat.
As far as sheer FUN... I've driven some tuned Miatas that were a blast. VERY low curb weight, roughly 220-hp, RWD (of course).... lots of fun. And if you start to "lose it", the speeds aren't so ridiculous that you're scared out of your mind.

While I've driven a LOT of street cars... most are set up for understeer (to keep people from, ahem, eating grass when hotdogging it) from the factory.... so a little tuning can make them a lot of fun.
