165mph...my pops 2002 BMW M5 (electronically limited, top speed is est @ 185-195mph). We made it from Los Angelese, CA to Palm Springs, CA in about an hour. Felt like we were go 80 or 85, until I look at the speedometer (sp?). ;D

145mph...1996 Infiniti I30t (My car, which is also limited by the manufactures installed "luxury chip") This car has modified with Stillen: Intake, Exhaust, Suspension, Wheels and Struts...there is a "Sport chip" offered by Stillen that can be installed to up acceleration response, power across the RPM band, torque and top speed that I REALLY REALLY want to get.

115-120mph to San Francisco, CA (from Los Angeles, CA)

100-110mph to Newport Beach, CA from Torrance, CA (on wet conditions 😱 -- I know, I should've known better, but I was late for a half-marathon! >.<)

160 on back of yamaha R1 middle of night on freshly blacktopped backroad while intoxicated with no helmet...needless to say, have never done anything that crazy since!

A friend of mine put a bored out 350 chevy engine into a GMC S-15 pickup, and damn, did that thing ever haul a$$.

115 in a 1984 Mercedes 300SD Turbodiesel. It was on a slight incline (I40)...else the car would only get up to 110. <--me driving...me hence stopped speeding more than 10 over.

130 (speed limiter kicked in here) in a 1999 Mercedes E430, on I40. <---dad driving...dad still speeds, but not that much.

Both of these "events" occurred in Texas when I was younger (20 years ago) and less careful.

Fastest Car I was ever in:

170+ mph (speedo was pegged, probably close to 200) in a 1970 Ford Torino Cobra (428 ci V-8, automatic, Z-rated tires, which was a limited production vehicle sold to qualify what was essentially a factory built NASCAR racecar as "stock")

Fastest I ever drove:

135 in a 1973 Pontiac Grand Prix (400 ci V-8). I had thought I was going fast at 100, when I was passed by a guy on a Harley. I caught up with him, and we cruised for quite a while at 135.

True story:

A friend and I were driving to a larger town a couple hours away from home in his Mustang GT....cruising along at 5 over, when this bright red porsche 911 turbo goes speeding by us in the lefthand lane. Ok cool, we just keep driving along as we had been, getting around traffic and all that, when who do we see slowing down to wait for us up ahead...the porsche.

So my friend, being the manly man he is, speeds up to pull even with the porsche...and as we do the other guy floors it (note I say to my friend right here he's just going to play with us) so my friend floors the GT to try and keep up. Traffic is fairly light so both cars start getting going fast...100+ mph pretty quickly when we come up to a small car (in left lane) and a semi (in right lane) blocking our race from continuing....or so we thought. The porsche driver (still going around 100mph) drives over onto the shoulder of the road and passes the semi from the right!

We chickened out and waited for the small car to pass the semi before passing ourselves and seeing the porsche waiting for us again. Traffic is really light now and we get up to 125+ mph, the whole time the porsche just plays with us...edging ahead and slowing down again 🙂 Finally we got to town and figured going 125 in a 65 was prolly a bad idea....so we slowed down and let the porsche have his victory! bwaha!
This is funny. I have a similar story, without the racing, I guess. When I was much younger (and much less wise 😛), I was cruising along on I95 in the left lane at just under 90mph in my friend's Integra (he was the passenger). Out of nowhere, a red Porshche 911 comes up on us and starts tailgating us. This of course annoyed me (as I said, I was young and foolish) so I asked my friend if he minded if I gave the car a little more gas. He didn't object so I stepped on the gas and got the thing up to 105. The Porsche continued to tailgate us. Seeing this, I took the car up to 115. Upon looking in the rearview mirror, the Porsche was still there, tailgating. I started to step on the gas to take it up to 120, when I finally thought better of it and pulled into the next lane and let him pass. The Porsche driver pulled up even with us for a second, gave me a slight knowing smile, and proceeded to disappear down the road. He must have been doing 140-150 easy. That was the fastest I have ever gone in a car though, maybe 117-ish. Then again, I've never driven a Porsche... 😀

147 in my Toyota Celica GT. It was down hill and I was trying to get my passengers drunk ass to puke for being stupid... Down town Cedar Rapids, Ia . I was successful after a couple of donuts BTW.

maybe 80-85. but that's because i was in a state filled with old people (the only state i've driven in): florida.

165mph in a 94-95 supra twin turbo, for about 3 miles. So fast it was scary, and it had a lot of room left in it's power band. Not driving, although I did get to drive the car, which was an experience in itself.

I rode in a sub-10s 86 mustang with a 302/331 stroker, supercharger, blahblahblah, ~640HP at the wheels. The acceleration in that car was so insane that it was truly frightening -- in particular I recall coming off the freeway from doing 150+, merging onto the eastbound road (Uintah) and fishtailing / having no traction in the back for well over 1/4 mile, as we seesawed up the road, down a hill, over a bridge and finally fishtailed around a stoplight. Simply incredible. Not driving, and don't think I *could* drive it, and I do a lot of wheeling/daily driving and consider myself a good driver.

The fastest I've ever driven was in a buddies 1950s peice of crap studebaker that was a total sleeper. Had a blown 454 in it and 4 carburetors! I was hauling ass to denver and my truck was dead, so I had to really make up for time. Did a little over 120mph from Colorado Springs to Boulder (~110 miles) -- that was the day I found out that you can go from Downtown CoS to southern denver in 1/2 hour, and that you *can* go 110 miles in under an hour.

Cruise control most of the way between Tampa & Miami on I-75, averaged about 160-170. Silly speedometer only went to 85, so the needle had wrapped around the bottom and was pushing against the other side of the 0. In an 83 Bonneville Brougham, very much doubt that it was the original engine.

Also 134 in a 95 Ford Escort. Stayed that speed for most of I-95 going from Tampa to NY. Ticketed for 134 in the Escort once in Ohio on a separate trip.

The above I consider to be relatively safe, as they are on highways with plenty of space. Craziest would be 115 on 3rd ave in Brooklyn, trying to scare the crap out of my parents so they would stop having me chauffer them everywhere. Didn't work, they were like "I want to go on the crazy taxi ride again!"

140 mph in my old modded '94 Mustang GT.

This was at 6:30AM on a Sunday morning on the 15 freeway outside of Temecula heading north. There was nobody on the road.

160+ at Disney world in Orlando, the Bush car event . My co. did a conference there and we had about 50 or so brave souls sign up for it . It was a lot of fun . The track is named after some nascar racer, not ernhart but the dude with the cowboy hat, skinny, older,I forget his name as I dont follow nascar. Those cars hit 100mph leaving the pits.
