I roadraced motorcycles for years (1997-2002), the fastest speed I've ever seen on my speedo was 187mph when drafting during Formula USA practice at Portland International Raceway in 2001 on a 2001 GSXR600 racebike that made 118hp (at wheel) and weighed 365lbs with 1/2 gallon of fuel.

I've also had three 100+ mph crashes with the fastest being over 140mph when I got collected by three crashing bikes behind me coming into turn 1 at Spokane raceway during the start of 600 superbike. Only a broken rib from that little bit of fun. The other was about 120mph at Portland when duking it out for 3rd place in 600 supersport and an errant outside pass attempt by the other racer had him clip my front brake lever and flipped me and my bike at about 120mph. Good fun. 3rd degree AC seperation of the shoulder from that little excursion.

Sorry Im throwing a major Bullshirt flag on this one..
As I have competetively raced 600 class for 5 years in CMRA/CCS
we have radar guns at the track and I have never ever seen a 600 do 187...
total horsehit.. thats the lands of the modified 1000+s
sorry man but spew that crap somewhere else as no 600 even heavily modified which would BE ILLEGAL to race in a 600 class can get that fast..
even the Pro modified 600s arnt that fast..
look up some real world stats from world superbike before you go tryign to Lie about stuff..

I'm callin BS too. Your speedo may have said 187, but you weren't doing 187. Even if you were drafting and had the wind at your back, going downhill, I really don't think you'd be capable of doing it, unless it was a huge hill (not one you would find on a racetrack).

140ish in a 3000GT (modified) on a NJ highway and same speed in a BMW 740il. I drove both cars but I didnt own them.
I hit about 145-150 in a Honda VFR and almost killed myself coming into some crosswind.

Fastest in a crap car: about 125mph in a '88 buick skyhawk 4 banger. took like 3 miles in a downhill grade to get that speed LOL

Read my post, I never said I was going 187, I said my speedo said 187. Everyone should know that ALL speedo's are off as much as 10% at those speeds. The fastest 600 supersport bikes at Portland have been radar'd at 160-ish. I think that the Pro AMA 600 supersports are under 170 at even Daytona. The only 600 supersport bikes that maybe could maybe hit 180mph are the World Supersport bikes that have very lax modification rules where they typically get over 140hp at the wheel. Trust me, I know all about the capabilities of racebikes having raced everything from a SV650, ZX6R, old 600 Hurricane, GSXR600, GSXR1000, YZF600 at over a half dozen tracks and several Pro events. I have only a handful of wins under my belt, but I was a consistant top 5 finisher in 4 classes including 750 Supersport and 750 Superbike on my GSXR600 with both WMRRA and OMRRA.

More proof than a stock photo would help.

Volvo makes some of the most stable cars in high speed.

I'm hoping to break 150mph in the Volvo I'm building up. It's a 960 w/ a 2.9L i6. Owned it for years, sold it to a friend, repair bills were too much, bought it back. So I have a third car now that shall be 'the project car.' :D It's already pretty smooth, though the stock ECU limits it to 129mph. Should have the custom ECU by next week. And the guys at the various volvo racing boards have been very helpful in helping me build this thing.

I had 68 mustang (modded up 289 about 350 HP 4 speed auto) that about 135 MPH (according to speedo) but that was WFO and a touch into red... only did that 2 times on cool nights with no wind at all.

The fastest I remember ever going was cruising around 100 from Atlanta to Houston. I was behind this guy in a Mercedes who was driving insanely fast. I wasn't really keeping track of how fast I was going as much as I was trying to stay behind him. I know the needle went over 100 several times.

That was when I was a freshmen in college (over 6 years ago). I've had enough tickets and payed enough insurance since then to ever try doing that again.

wow is that even possible :p

like i said I did 125ish in a 4-banger buick skyhawk which is lighter ... but i needed like 3 miles of downhill grade to get there.
my stupid spedometer went all the way back around to 10-15mph so the 125 is just an estimate :p
I think on flat pavement that car wouldn't go over 100.

I got up to 125 in my '87 300ZX on the interstate but had to let off as I was approaching cars quickly.
Used to cruise at 90-100 in my g/f's '01 Maxima. Smooth as silk. She never would realize we were going that fast until they looked at the speedometer.

I couldn't quite tell if you meant "old man's" as in it was your dad's car, or that it's an "old man" car.....lol. I hope it was the first one. :p

I'm actually buying a 1994 Pontiac Bonneville SSEi myself this week, most likely. They're very nice cars. :)

Um Wtf? you have a speedo on your race bike? and if your a newb enough to have one WTF were you doign LOOKING DOWN while pegged on top end... while in a RACE? stay the hell off my class then youd get run the hell over here...
CCS tech rules speedos must be taped over or removed...
if you had time to even glance down you were not going 187 or even 160 becasue you must be a newb...
or a Novice... I race expert... white plates in CCS....
and looking down for any reason unless pulled over is a newb mistake that will get you killed or wrecked..
if you want to compare race bikes and wins then bring it.. over the last 4 years i have won 20 first and second place finishes for sprints... my team has finished first and second 3 times for Endurance racing..
our current race bike team owns 3 200 GSXR 600s 2 2004 GSXR 750s and 2 2004 GSXR 1000s...
all dedicated race bikes all identicle paint and parts...
we are sponcered by a rather large Suzuki dealership down here and the team has produced 2 riders that went pro AMA within the last 5 years...
my personal race bike owned by me is a CBR600RR 2003 model.
my street bike is a CBR929RR..
I have had over 15 bikes in my 33 years.. worked as a Race Team/Shop mechanic for 4 years before I got my race license. so I think Ive earned the right to throw the BS flag on this one...
Speedo on the race track... nice one newb...

Man what a bunch of jerks there are on this forum. Yes I had the stock speedo on my bike. OMRRA, FUSA and WMRRA rules allow them as long as clear tape is used over them to keep the plastic from shattering in event of a crash. The stock speedo setup is used by me and several other top local racers that pass tech even at AMA Pro events. Racers such as Mike Sullivan, John Dugan, Alan Schmidt and Jake Holden (all of which are faster than I ever was), don't believe me, then just go check out their bikes at the next AMA race (except Jake is no longer racing for RICCI motorsports so his bike may be set up different now). I wouldn't say I am a newb exactly, like I said, I had raced from 1997-2002 starting as a novice, moving to amateur and then expert. Also, since you are familiar with the GSXR, you've noticed that the speed display and tach are in close proximity to each other. Is it hard to believe that when glancing at a tach while in a tuck somehow magically the huge digital numbers indicating mph might get noticed as well? Also if you notice, I said that I was in FUSA practice that I noticed the speed and not a race. In all my years of racing, I've only had 5 crashes. One cold tire crash before I picked up tire warmers, one low side from braking to hard while leaned over, one high side from grabbing to much throttle (obviously) and two other times caused by other riders running into me as I had mentioned before. I am not here to compare race wins or say how good a racer I was, all I said was that I saw 187mph on my speed in practice and then backed it up by stating that I had experience to validify that claim. Im terms of wins, it sounds like you got me beat by a wide margin. I am not the best, I was a pretty good club level racer, end of story. You should know that even placing top 10 in a expert class 600 supersport club level race is generally fairly tough with 40-50 bike grids and consistant top 5 is harder still. I did everything I did out of my own pocket and by myself often stretching my tires to last two race weekends of 3+ race classes each. I was my own mechanic, pit crew and rider with no dealer support other than a small discount on my GSXR in exchange for throwing a sticker on my race bike. My only relief came from Suzuki and Pirelli contingency and the occasional superbike payout. And to the guy who said that I was using a "stock" photo, here are two more of me, one clearly showing my stock speedo in case anyone wants to look.
