What's the difference between a libertarian and a republican on views?

Plain and simple.

1. Very true, but there are also "moderate" candidates in those 2 parties and I said that once Libertarians present a decent moderate candidate they will gain some political sway.

2. That very well could be - but either americans don't care(gets my vote;) ) or cherry pick issues to present the image of being "freedom hawks"

Whatever though, a third party will have a very tough time gaining much political pull without a major exodus of candidates from either(or both) party. I unfortunately don't see it happening in the near future.
