btw, i use the one that came with windows. friend let me use diskkeeper to try it out and i didnt notice anything expect it was running in the background and it did slow my games down.

You have to boot into safe mode. Hold F8 while booting and choose Safe Mode. This is where the minimum number of drivers, etc. are loaded to run the PC, very useful for maintenance and troubleshooting. Since nearly nothing is running in the background, it is ideal for defragging, IMO.

It's fast and rulez over the standard Windows defragger.
Can anyone tell me what improvements they made in version 8?

Yes,in my case I find Diskeeper 8 is very fast,not just that it has more options like defrag MFT,paging file,also you have "set it and forget it "mode,I actually have it set to run auto defrag when it goes into screensaver mode.

Well let me rephrase that, I defrag in safemode only after I install a large program and I defrag with pagefile off about every 3 months. Other times i just use defrag while in windows. The pagefile is not defragged so setting it to none allows more through defrag and of course using it in safemode is more through due to nothing running in background.

I can't say if Diskeeper defrags "better" than the Windows built-in version, but it is without a doubt light years faster. Windows takes forever and even if I find my drive heavily fragmented, Diskeeper does the job in minutes. It integrates well with the XP OS too, something I've had a problem with in some Symantec products.

But you haven't noticed an actual better defrag with it? ie. Difference in load times of different things afterwards.

Does being able to do the defrag faster matter much if it's going to be defragging when your away anyway?

The one built-in XP is made by same company I believe,think of it(XP one) as a lite version,Diskeeper 8 Pro has more defrag options so can do a better defrag job,as to speed,it`s a lot quicker then the XP one.

I like the fact that I can defrag MFT & page file,performance will vary between users PC so hard for me to give you a number,you can try the trial version and find out for yourself .

But again, you mention defrag speed. I was referring to speed differences after the defrag. And that was a separate question about just a normal defrag, than from the question about defragging the MFT, page file.
