Whats the cheapest way to make my 98 civic faster?

98 civic LX, I didn't know the EX's were that much faster so I didn't bother. Would it be easiest to get a Vtec engine later on or even a V6 if possible? I was thinking of spending around $1000 when I get the money (job). some recommended supercharger but i have no idea what thats about. The car has good acceleration already but I would something a tad bit more powerful.

Aim for the nearest cliff? Most people start mods by opening up the intake with a free flowing air filter like a K&N and then a bigger exhaust. Ricers do like koni said though and it seems to work for them

If you get another engine put in, make sure you know what your doing since some people drive their cars real hard thinking it's nothing and it breaks down. Certify it too since there are now cops that know exactly whats supposed to be in Hondas..etc.

UT: not once in my life have I been pulled over and asked to pop the hood. You don't need to worry about the cops and your engine swap, but the people that do the emissions testing if you live in a state where you have that sort of thing. Bless illinois

$1000 isn't going to get you a heck of a lot unless you get nitro I think...ultimately spending money on upgrading a car is a waste of money, unless its your hobby and you really enjoy doing it and you're financially well off.
