$1000 isn't nearly enough for a whole conversion. If you have the money, drop in a Integra LS block with a Type-R head, or just an Integra GS-R engine. Basic bolt ons, then supercharge/turbocharge it. It'll give you a decent upgrade.

dude its a fugly car, don't waste another dime on it, take the $1000 save it, and trade that thang in on a decent automobile.

:)

Then again, im about to spend $1000 on my vw -> overdrive pulley, porsche 944 fpr, giac chip, isv by-pass, 268 cam,180 thermostat. Will go from 158 hp to 200hp, 166 ft/lbs torque to 217 ft/lbs torque. :)

call up a local auto-tuner for honda's they'll let you know how much to spend on what upgrades to maximize your performance.

for around 5-600 you can get a n ice K&N air filter and exhast system, not that hard.... and with the ohter 400, you can get your computer upgraded. (in the car)

exhast will give ya around 20ish horse more.... and filter around 10 ish....

I have to agree that intake mods (bigger throttle body) and exhaust (stinking leaky headers) mods are cheap and may make a slight difference.

For a grand you can buy almost all the performance enhancing crap in the JC whitney catalog. Some of it may even work. Chances are that short of engine swap, you won't achieve an increase you can feel unless you go nitrous (which can be a death sentence).

If it was me, I'd get a Kanie Hedgehog and a Raid card for it.

In response to one of the above posts...an exhaust upgrade wouldn't really give you anywhere near 20 horsepower. The actual gain for most people is around 5-10 at most. It's still enough for a mini-kick, but it's not like what a small turbocharger would give you.

I would say get a K & N Airfilter. Rather cheap ($40) and it will give about 2 more HP. Hehe, not much but its better than nothing, and you will get better fuel economy as well. Also new headers and exhuast system will get you a few more horsepower.

And yes, its about 2 HP, becuase thats a tiny engine to begin with. When K & N says "Up to 20 More Horsepower!!!!", That's in a big-block V-8 :)

$1000 would get you nitrous and racing seatbelts ;)

but you could lose some dead weight:
licience plates, head-rests, radio, speakers, air filter;), air-conditioning, etc.

btw, losing air con would give you about 20hp gain + weight loss!!!

and I agree with the census, stickers really help ROFL

Get a bag of nails and spread them around all the cars around you. Remember that speed is relative.

ooooo oooo and dingleballs too!

new exhaust system is probably the cheapset... u have an I-4 engine so u probably can't do much with that... maybe get a new spoiler.. a good one will help u make sharper turns.. etc.. u know how that works...

or u can jus get a nitrous system.. that would be sweet as hell

Find a place that sells racing fuel... it's probably two or three times the cost of regular gas, but $1000 buys a lot of gas.

You can't do a full swap for $1000... If you really want to make your civic fast, save up another 5k. Then you can have a fast civic :)

You sayin the Lotus Espirit S4 isn't a real car? Last I checked, it was considered a supercar. Imagine that.

sell it and with the money plus your $1000 buy like a '79 monte carlo with a 350 or a 454 .. that would be fast..

Its been said, but I'll say it again: Slap some racing stickers on it, and you'll make it faster
