If you play as a team, you can take down tanks easy. I found out the hard way.

I was playing Market Garden as the Axis. Thinking I was big and bad in the lead tank in a convoy crossing over the main bridge, someone bazookaed my tank, I look to the left and in the building there was the guy. I turn to shoot him and then there was another guy shooting me from a different floor. Next thing I know, I'm dead. Then they proceed to get the next 2 tanks in back of me since they bottled us up. After respawning, I decide to go by foot. When I reach the building, I'm shot dead because I didn't see the sentry they placed at the front of the building. That was the best example of tactics I saw. They completely demolished us.

BF1942 is a kick ass game because it is not Q3 or UT. Those games are frag fests.

In one game of BF1942, playing on Bulge, I was spawn camping the Axis base, killing people left and right. I got very few points though. Once I started capping flags, my points went sky high. So the real point in BF1942 is not so much killing the other team members, but completing the objectives. You get more points for doing that.

Its a great game, I love the variety in the maps and the play styles based on the maps/equipment. But damnit, they really need to get that code straightened out. The netcode in charge of predicting where the bullets go (how much you lead a guy), the either server or graphic lag when things get busy, etc... Hopefully the soon to be release 1.2 patch will fix a bunch of this.

If it was more bug free, definitely GOTY, but right now, its 2nd place (this from someone who only plays BF1942 right now).

What's so wrong about it? Can't swim?? Do you think you would be able to swim with 80lbs - 120lbs of gear on you? Tank too powerful? Do you think you could actually survive a tank round to the chest (or close by, for that matter) or getting run over by one?

Damn, boy, go back to playing Super Mario Brothers.

The instagib rifle would be cooler if it had a slower moving ball of instagib energy that you could primary-fire it and send a huge wake of instagib explosion. :D

I know how supersix feels when I started playing UT, Doom, and Quake. All fast trigger happy mumble jumble. I then went to CS and was like damnnn this is too slow! But then I got addicted to CS and dropped Quake. I prefer games like MOA and more brain power to win over fast finger action and blow'em up games. Strategy just makes it more fun. I'm gonna have to get BF 1942 still!

Ok this game is addictive, I like history anyway, and these war games that they are releasing are right up my alley. (mohaa, and bf1942) I will have to say that figuring out the lag factor sucks, several times I pop someone with the machine gun, and they waste 2-3 seconds later, which sucks cause ammo is a precious commodity. Also the pistol being more powerful than the sniperifle gets to me. When I shoot someone with the Kar96 in the chest at 20-80 yards, I would expect them to drop like a ton of bricks, not have to shoot them 3 more times. Argueably, yes it's more challenging to go for the head shot, but rounds like the .303, and Kar shoot, would demolish a target at this range. Also when I'm an engineer, the fact that I can pull out the Colt .45, and do more damage than the rifle is disheartening.
I will say this game rocks, except for the glitches. I have the full version, and I can't connect to any online servers, ea or not. I also run the demo version 1.0 I have the update, but I Can't install it because I get this error "cannot install the update, as you do not have the full version of the demo." Well kiss my butt I didn't know there was an "incomplete version" of the demo. I downloaded demo 2 times, and 2 different sites for updates, still not go. Agggghhh
Anyhow funniest moments....The first time I saw my teamates take 2 Mustangs and drive them through the airfield over to the north shore, and shoot down the troops over there with the airplanes on the ground...Now that was good. Also yes the tank is king, but watch out for airplanes, those friggn' bombs will smack you everytime. I do love this game it's addictive....

Most of the equipment would take you more than a few minutes to get off. If you topple your boat, you're probably shocked that a collision or round hit the boat. Then, when trying to get your stuff off, you'd take too long and drown. Have you read anything about WWII? D-Day? Too many troops were subject to drowning because they jumped ship instead of waiting for the door to fall open and get slaughtered by the trench guns. They couldn't do it in real life -and, since the game is going for realism, there ya go.

Nice summation of why this game is great by NFS4. As he pointed out, it's all the variety that keeps me coming back. I need to work on my flying skills tho...I really suck ass in a plane.

I do have a few gripes tho. Netcode, as mentioned by others, has gremlins. My biggest beef is with the close combat tho. They REALLY need to work on this as it's almost impossible to hit someone at close range with anything other than full-auto unless they're standing still. I was chasing some jackass around with a knife the other day inside a building and couldn't so much as scratch him while he was scrambling to reload. The also need to address the splash damage with the bazooka/panzerfaust. If I unload a round from one of those bad boys into a pillbox, it should at least stun the guys inside via the concussion from the explosion (big boom in tiny cement room = teh ouch). I'm sure they gave it small splash to keep people from treating it like a Q3A rocket launcher, but at least add a little bit of realism okay?

*Forgot this one....
What about the fact that if you shoot at someone with the bazooka, you have to make a direct hit to send them into yesterday? I don't know much about bazooka's but I would think the bazooka on MOHAA is more realistic. Just caught me off guard the first few times I blasted away at soldiers feet, only to be cutdown by there machine gun. Also a direct hit with the tank at about 40+yards is awesome, seeing your victim flying almost to the treetops on wake is hillarious......

I disagree on the rambo part. I used to be a hardcore C-S player before I switched my focus to BF1942. When I parachute next to an enemy controlled point on Wake or play maps like Berlin I sweep the area clear no matter what number of enemies there are. I neglected to get a screenshot of my 18-1 start on foot on Wake when I got cutoff from the rest of my team on the southern control point and held it for over five minutes against waves of Japanese infantry. I did get a screenshot of my 10-0 game on BattleAxe but I was in a tank for that.

The frustrating part of this game is that the aiming isn't like C-S. I'm used to aiming at somebody's head or torso to hit them when they're moving. In BF1942 you have to lead them unrealistically far. I usually imagine I'm trying to throw a marshmallow at them.

A soldier on foot has a good chance against a tank anyway. Find some cover and throw grenades.

Funnest parts of BF1942:
1. Jeep kills!
2. The deep thwack as six battleship cannons slam into a carrier's side.
3. ExPack kills!
4. Hitting a plane with a cannon.
5. Taking out a tank with an AA gun and watching him spin around in circles trying to figure out whose hitting him.

Great game.

In all reality, standard grenades don't do jack crap against a tank. Tanks can take rounds from other lesser-tanks and not do anything but slightly dent the outer layer of armor. A well placed grenade might be able to disable a track on the tank, but grenades aren't pin-point accurate, and neither is the guy who throws it.

While it's true that a soldier has a good chance against a tank, it's because of his extreme agility and size that gives him the edge - not the grenades

Solution: sex with wife first, then sneak off to play BF1942 after she falls asleep. Household harmony is acheived.

I still say the funniest moments for me were back when the demo first came out and people couldn't figure out that you have to 1.) Jump out of the plane and then 2.) Open your chute. Seeing people fall hundreds of feet and slam into the side of a hill on wake island will get you ROFL for several minutes.

LMFAO. AHAHHAHA. I love jumping out of a plane and waiting til the LAST second to open the chute. :p

bf1942 is fun...a nice break from the twitch FPS's out there. I still like UT2003 a lot though...both games have their good and bad points. BF1942 is more team oriented. I wish either one had voice chat like in CS.

Ohh, here are the changes in the next 1.2 patch:

10/25/02

Me too. :) I also like laying some detpacks and throwing myself up in the air infront of an enemy plane... you'd be surprised how many times they panic and crash into a hill instead of just hitting you. ;)

I havn't played BF in about 2 weeks though... got my new HDTV and all I've done is watch TV or play Xbox games. If only I had the patience to sit down with powerstrip and get the PC to display on the HDTV correctly at over 640x480 I'd play it on that. :)

I wonder if they'll release a useful SDK for mod teams. I heard a few mod teams canceled their projects because EA is notorious for not letting SDKs out.

Glad they're tweaking grendade damage to tanks. Hopping in a tank on Berlin and watching the grenades come flying in like hail was probably #6 on my fun list.
