WHat a piece of sh1t that game is..

Spawn, run for 5 minutes to where action is, run into some jackass in a tank, die, start all over again..

WAY too much time wasted getting to action, can't swim underwater (Flip a personnel boat, you can't get out), Tank is MUCH too powerful, generally no where near as fluid play as Quake3 or Unreal. Which engine is this POS based on?

LOL, a game that requires 10x as much brainpower as some lame shooter like Q3 or UT2003 and he calls it a piece of sh!t. Haha, BF1942 is the game of the year baby!!! :D

You've been spending too much time playing in a fantasy world of rail guns and flak canons. BF1942 is much more realistic. If this had been real life and you walked up to a tank, of course your ass would be dead. Tank too powerful? It's a fuggin' tank, what do you expect?

And yes, it takes some time to get to the action b/c that's how things WERE back then. Some of the maps are like 16 square miles I believe (the desert maps). It's not uncommon to take about 15 - 20 minutes to cross a map on foot. That's why you have jeeps, planes, and tanks to travel; just like in real life.

BF1942 is for people with patience and with good team/leadership skills. Q3 and UT2003 are for mindless drones with itchy trigger fingers. You try blasting through town in BF1942 with your bazooka and you will be QUICKLY snuffed out by a sniper.

I'll still never forget the time that I was smashing people to bits as I lobbed shells in a tank. I blew up two German tanks and 5 Japanese soldiers who kept f*&king with me. Then one of the Japanese punks hit my tank with a bazooka a couple of time. My energy was down to like one bar and it was smoking. I quickly hopped out as I knew it was gonna blow soon. I dropped prone and crawled behind a tree and sniped the bastard that was firing bazooka shells at me. At that moment I heard a whistling sound. I looked up and a Zero had dropped a bomb from overhead. Next thing I know, my ass is blown to bits :D

Agreed, GOTY (Vice City would be it if it hits the PC this year, doubtful. EGM gave it straight 10s)

It has it's problems, but the game is a freakin hoot. I find myself playing with a big ass smile on my face and laughing most of the time.

And the engine is the Refractor 2 engine. Update to an older engine IIRC. Not from scratch, but tons of changes.

Game of the Year for sure, This game is very very good. No, you can't run around blasting everythign in sight. You have to play as a team to win, Its alot of fun when your whole team is working together and beating the crap out of the other team who is plane camping. This a great game for clans to play, since the teamwork is vital, and with that being said, If there are any clans that want a match PM, we might take you up on that.

So do you guys have Zonealarm installed on your computer, it worked fine on my computer until I installed zonealarm, then it wouldn't work right even though I gave it (permission etc...)

So I formatted and reinstalled and it worked fine after that, it even ran better when I upgraded from 256 ram to 512.

I briefly had my system at 1GB of DDR333 instead of the usual 512MB and it was MUCH smoother and the levels loaded up faster as well.

That being said, the only people that I have seen constantly bash BF1942 are the same people that get their kicks off mass killing sprees in Q3 or UT/UT2003

Definely GOTY

its such an awesome game. If you don't have the time and patience for it then its not your type of game and you can stick to the mindless endless clicking of UT and Quake

This is SOOOOO teambased. Its hard to get a whole lot done on your own. Thats part of what makes it so good. That and there is so much variation and things to do. I get tired of flying, go to tank, go to ships, go to flag cap.... its incredible.

PS
It's a freakin tank!

First of all, LOL at this PIC :p

Secondly, I agree completely. Unlike UT or Q3, you can't go Rambo and expect to accomplish anything on your own. If you're in a tank, EXPECT to have some troops backing flanking you or else the tank gunner is gonna be dead in 5 seconds. The lumbering B17's need support from the pesky German ME BF-109's and such.

There is just SO much variation in the game. I mean, it's like REALLY being at war. I mean, everything is interactive. I just get amazed sometimes to actually think that there are THIS many people around me...tanks rolling by, two dudes in a jeep zipping by at 45MPH down the road, a P-51 Mustang dropping bombs on tank in the distance, a soldier in an anti-aircraft station splattering flak all over the sky, small troop carriers making their way to shore, and countless others.

BF1942 is the kind of game where EVERYONE has that ONE moment that just amazed them or left them rolling on the floor in laughter. I've had quite a few myself, one being listed above. Another that I listed in another thread:

I had a string of runs in a F4U Corsair I took off from our air base and bombed 5 planes in a row (in 5 seperate waves) as they were trying to take off from the carrier. Then I started gunning for the troop carrier boats that were landing on the shore. After about 10 mins of mindless bombing, I was shot by a Zero that had FINALLY been able to take off. My engine started smoking so I parachuted out and landed in the water next to their carrier. So I swam over to the net overhanging the carrier and climbed up. I strolled down the sides of the carrier and up to the flight deck. I capped a guy in the back that was running to a Zero and I stole his plane and took off. I was laughing all the way back to base :p

My tag is d.jam and I flew all 4 rounds.

How do you line up for good strafes? I can never seem to spot someone far enough out and get lined up for a good run.

(Flip a personnel boat, you can't get out)

Thats what sucks about capsizing, sometimes you drown. Hit enter and kill yourself & respawn. If someone is causing havoc in a tank respawn as an anti-tank, run back to his general position and go prone behind some sandbags or a fence. Wait for him to roll by and hit him in the rear with a bazooka round. A shot placed squarely on the tail end of a light tank(the only kind in the demo) will knock it out in one shot under most circumstances.

LOL that looks like a pic I was part of. I was probably one of the first people to push the destroyer onto land with the carrier. Damn thing jumped up into the air and then landed on the beach by the turret. :D

I still say the funniest moments for me were back when the demo first came out and people couldn't figure out that you have to 1.) Jump out of the plane and then 2.) Open your chute. Seeing people fall hundreds of feet and slam into the side of a hill on wake island will get you ROFL for several minutes. ;)
